first match ever

I shot my first ever match this last saturday. It was 100 yard score at Blackcreek range in Virginia. Bought my rifle in January and only fired 5 rounds the day I bought it. Bought all the necessary gear to get into the sport (boy did that hurt!).
Anyways I had an awesome time and look forward to more. I scored 249-16X. Was thinking too much in the first match and dropped a point. Settled in nicely and my last target for the day was a 50-5x. Conditions were very good with little wind.

yes, you are right. It is probably designed that way...
You can see from my profile (joined in 2008) the I have had an interest for a long time. I saved up 10K to throw at the sport and then when I had that, jumped in. Pretty happy that I did it this way as I was able to buy what I needed and not try to compete without the proper gear and end up disappointed. carrying through on the desire was/is very satisfying.

Great job! You did it right- i always advise folks to have 10k on hand to get started. Keeps you from buying junk

shot my second match today. Low twitchy winds, extreme humidity. Scored my first 250. was ecstatic about that. 16 Xs for a 7th place finish.
required more sighters than I expected to figure it out but very happy with the results. Black creek range, Virginia.
there are some truly great folks at these events.

Nice job there Dave. It took me 3 tries to shoot a 250 at 100 and you did it in 2. Congratulations. Now you have to show up this weekend to shoot the Bud Pryor in MD. 3 yardages and lots of great people and great shooters.

sorry I did not make that one Jim. Had a motorcycle trip to Arkansas.

Shot my 3rd match yesterday. (Blackcreek range) Had a blast! Winds were quite challenging and inconsistent. Finished 4th with a 250-17X. one place behind my mentor, Mike Early who shot a nice 250-18X. Will be at Fairfax on this Saturday the 9th. I guess it is time to start using and learning flags. I think I want a wind indicator. Looking in the classified for one of those with the red cups.

Good Stuff!

I too am in my first season of Benchrest, and I am hooked! Glad to see you have a mentor and are seeing success, it really makes a difference.

Thanks Josh. It is a bunch of fun and quite challenging in many ways.
Where are you located?

SW PA,

Got to shoot the Bud, and a couple of times at Sulphyr Springs so far. Been having a blast, great group of people, and lots to learn!
