factory action

I have seen and talked to some people about the way factory actions anr cut out in the rear of them.i was told that custom actions for benchrest leave more mat . in the rear for stiffnes in this area.now why not do the same on fatory actions?this would in my opion help these out in making them better and if you do not have to machine them there and leave them in a full diameter you are saveing money in the machining .am I right in this?

There are many differences between factory and custom. I would think stiffness is at the bottom of the ladder accuracy wise.

The majority of Factory Actions are sold to people who have no intention of engaging in any shooting activity where more action stiffness is a big factor. They are hunting arms. Weight is a big consideration.

Also, in order to allow the Rifle to accomadate things such a magazines, especially fo harder rounds, room has to be made. This means metal removal.

Factory actions fulfill the purpose for which they are designed.
