Excessive bullet jump

I did a 6.5x55 switch barrel setup on a Savage Short Action. The way the chamber is throated the bullets to function through the magazine have to be set 1/4" off the lands. Accuracy is not as expected hovering around 1 MOA. Besides a Savage long action do you have any other ideas?
 
Case Length

The 6.5x55 is one of those cases that is in between. Really too long for a short action, and a tad short for a long action.

A shorter throat is what you need, but with the longer bullets, the base will be down past the neck shoulder junction.

If you notice Remington's that were offered in 6.5x55 were based on a long action.

Is there a reason you have to feed from a magazine??........jackie
 
Great suggestions

I use this rifle as a long /short range coyote rifle. I'll load develop seated out and the follow up shot seated in the magazine. I have 3 other 6.5x55 but they are in match rifles and have no magazines.
