Someone told me there are shop notes on areas of the internet that trace when, where and who the gun was made for. This is my first post and new to BRC. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

That is Eric Johnson. I have a couple of his 5 star barrels that came from the estate of Karl Kenyon. Great barrels!

If the rifle has been well cared for you have an excellent rifle. Do a search on Eric Johnson on this website and you will find a fair bit of info about him. I bought my first Johnson built 37 around ten years ago. I love it.
When you do a search you should be able to learn a fair bit about Johnson himself. I’ve posted things over the years as well as others.
A man named Steve Seewin usually posts on the Winchester forum on Rimfirecentral.com, and he has been kind enough to look up info in Johnson’s shop notes before. He posts under the screen name Seewin. Incredibly well informed guy. If you cannot reach him, ASSRA.com has an archivist with access to the records and, for a small fee, can try to look it up.
Out of curiosity, what are your barrel serial number and date? I have some of Johnson’s work but can’t take them down to see the info at the moment as I am getting over a surgery.

Hi Butch. Thanks for being so generous to look at the shop notes of Eric Johnson and try to give me some info on my gun. The date of the barrel is 2-**-** and the serial # on the barrel is ***6. Hope from this info that I can find who he built the gun for since no one knows the history of the gun. The guy I purchased the gun from, got it from his father-in-law, which was not the person the gun was built for.

I'm disappointed to say for the money I mailed for another copy of Eric Johnson's notes I only received 2 pages. I do believe that Trout's rifle was barrelled as he mentioned in 2-11-1955 for a gentleman in Washington DC.
