Enough Talk

Guys, I realize I have been pretty long winded about this tuner thing, but one day soon, you will understand why I was so determined to get the word out to you. If I did not care for all of you, I would simply keep this to myself, but I have always believed good things should be shared with others. :)

There comes a time when nothing more can be accomplished with the spoken or written word; sooner or later you must SHOW not tell. You can talk about something till you're blue in the face, but people will not accept it as the truth until they experience it for themselves. This fact was indelibly burned into my conciousness back in the eighties, when I earned my living teaching unlimited aerobatics and advanced spins.

I won't bore you with the details but to make a long story short, the spin recovery procedure that I developed was incredibly simple and reliable, but radically different from that taught during the preceeding seventy years.

At first, I had a hard time convincing others that I really did know what I was talking about; most were reluctant to believe that an uneducated, redneck from West Texas could possibly know something that the FAA and NASA had not already discovered. But when I know I'm right about something I am not easily dismissed. I am proud to say that today my Emergency Spin Recovery (ESR) is recognized the world over and is taught at the test pilot school at Edwards Air Force Base. But,,,, enough of that.

Each and every one of you has an open invitation to visit the tunnel facility here in Odessa/Midland, Texas. The Midland International Airport, located midway between the cities is a twenty minute drive from the tunnel. It is served by Southwest Airlines with Boeing 737's. I can pick you up there or rental cars are available. I am full-time into benchrest instruction.

Wilbur, I'll make you a deal you can't refuse. You have been very patient and understanding with me and I appreciate that. You have also been openly skeptical of my claims about tuners, and that's okay; I understand. A wise man does not believe everything he hears and only half of what he sees, but he certainly believes what he experiences first hand. So here's the deal.

Buy a ticket on Southwest Airlines to the Midland International Airport and fly out at your convenience; I'll pick you up there. You won't have to bring anything except your personal belongings; we will use my equipment and components. We will spend a day or two shooting in the tunnel and going over all this stuff and if at the end of your training, you do not feel that what you have learned has been worth the trip, you owe me nothing. If on the other hand you are as pleased as I know you will be, all I ask is that you tell others about your experience. How's that?:D

Consider the following. If I'm mistaken about any of this, you owe it to everyone to come out here and straighten me out; however, if I'm right in everything I say, you owe it to yourself to take advantage of this golden opportunity to learn about the next big thing! What do you say?

How 'bout it guys? Do you think Wilbur should take me up on my offer? :D

Gene that is indeed a very nice offer.Wilbur buy that ticket and let the little people know your results.

Well....

I haven't exactly chosen your deal and suddenly become skeptical - I own skeptical.

What a deal! Round trip to Midland is only $464.

Tell me a little more about what you are going to show me. I can buy a tuner cheaper than than the plane ticket. I suppose I'm asking you to convey the test procedure that would convince such a skeptic as myself.

What causes...

Beeing a 3P small bore shooter (The Netherlands) I am very interested in the workings of tuners and bolt torque.
Looking at the pictures VarmintAl made, the receiver and stock start bending upwards after the shot is fired. What causes the initial upward direction? Is it because the barrel (hanging down) is forcing the receiver in an arch before the shot? Is it because of the upward motion of the riflle? or is it because the stock makes the combination receiver/stock more ridged on the side of the stock? Is it a combination of mentioned factors or....

Can anyone please explain?

Thanks.

Spin Recovery

Gene,

As an old airplane driver (C 152 and C 172) who insisted on learning spin recovery during flight training, I would certainly enjoy hearing about your advanced spin recovery technique. I learned the old way, and found it good if you had enough altitude. I must admit tho, that I am adopting a wait and see attitude on the tuners, prefering for at least the present to continue with practice, practice, and more practice to better learn to read the conditions. I will concentrate more on specific tune as my confidence level increases concerning conditions.

Thanks for all you have done concerning all of your experiments. Especially appealing to me is the 22/6/30 Beggs. That I may need to try.

I agree

Wilbur not much of a deal.
How about if those of us that shoot in the SE region donate 5 or 10 bucks to get Wilbur to Texas so his and our skepticism is satisfied, surely there are enough members to take up the slack. Of course Wilbur will have to do all the hard work if he can find the time and agrees.

I bid 10 bucks, anyone else?:D

Gene

How does Feb 5 look on your schedule?

Southwest ran a half price "Ding!" fare just this morning and gave me until 8PM Central to buy a ticket.

Geary, e-mail me please. genebeggs@cableone.net.

If Wilbur doesn't make it by the Shamrock, perhaps we could have a special event to help him pay his way. Then he could tell us all about it on this web site. I wil bring my $10 to Dublin Ga. just to help out!

Deal !!

Sounds good Wilbur, I'll put you down for Feb 5. Just let me know the details of your itenerary. You are welcome to stay at my home if you are willing to put up with a small, simple abode, but it's just my wife and I at home now. I'll certainly understand if you prefer to have your own, private hotel room and can make a reservation for you.

West Texas is not expecially pretty this time of year, but the purpose of your visit is not to sight see; huh? And if the weather is bad, no problem; the tunnel facility is very comfortable with central heat and air. ;) :D

I am very excited and also very pleased that you accepted my offer. We will have a great time, learn a lot and maybe even enjoy a good steak while you're here. I hope you can stay at least two days and three would be better. I'll leave that up to you. One thing I might mention and that is;

It has come to my attention that some are reluctant to come for training because they are concerned about exposing themselves to criticism and some have even said they were intimidated by me.

Boy, that sure came as a surprise. I have always regarded myself as a kind and gentle man, and in spite of my sometimes stern, quiet, serious demeanor, I am anything but an intimidating critic. The captains at any airline all develope their own reputations as to whether or not they are pleasant to fly with. Some are notorious for being absolute jerks! It warms my heart to know that I was regarded as not only a good pilot, but also one who was pleasant to fly with. :) :)

Wilbur, you asked what I would be teaching you. The main objective of our visit is to introduce you to the tuner and teach you how to get and keep, the rifle in tune. You will also be introduced to a new and radically different stock design as well as two new cartridges; the 220 Beggs and 6mm Beggs, both in no-neck-turn configuration. We will be shooting the Stiller drop port action and will be using both the Leu 36 and Comp 45 scopes. The 36 has been frozen by Jackie Schmidt and is mounted in one of Gene Buky's mounts. The Leu Comp 45 uses one of Bob Brackney's mounts.

Thanks again for accepting my offer. I'm looking forward to your visit! :D

Hey Hornet, I'll donate $20 for a one-way or $10 for a round trip!!

How's that Wilbur, ole buddy??

I knew I could count on you Jerry, come on guy's, let's keep it rolling, might even get enough for Wilbur to bring one of those contraptions home, let's keep the $$$$$ coming in. Nobody will miss 10 bucks, eh.:D

Dan Honert:)

I'm In

Wilbur post an address and I'll send $20 to hear your comments.
I've actually got a better idea!!!!!! How about Gene putting Wilbur in his Pitt Special and scaring all of the skepticism out of him.It shouldn't take more than 2 or 3 Emergengy Spin Recoveries.
Lynn

Way to go Dan H. Put me in for $10 because I'm heading to TX to see Shelley then to the Cactus then over to the Shamrock. Let my know where to send the money. We will probably learn something.

Jeff Aberegg

already in deal

Gene's contract is that Wilbur will spread the word!!!! cann't beat that with an ugly stick. Wilbur is a good "SPREADER OF THE BENCH REST GOSSIP":D;)

Bad Boys

You guys are a riot!:p :D And you Jerry,, $20.00 for a one-way, $10.00 to a round trip,,,,,hmm, now let me mull that over in my mind ,, okay, I got it:D Sort of reminds me of something my mother used to say about my dad. She said, "I wouldn't take a million dollars for him, but I wouldn't give you fifteen cents for another one just like him."

And Lynn, it sure would be crowded with both Wilbur and me in that Pitts, cause it only has one seat. Besides, I sold it several months ago to a man in Topeka, Kansas. It found a good home and I hope he enjoys it as much as I did.

Wilbur, I received your itenerary and will look forward to seeing you.

Later guys,

Gene Beggs

I'm all set

Gettin' there at the end of the day on 2/5 - ready to learn my lesson at Gene's convenience on Wednesday. Plane home (actually Nashville which is 150 miles easy from home) at five something Friday.

In lieu of contributions, a good cup of coffee, a kind word, and a little leeway when possible will suffice.

Gene - if something comes up try to give me time to call off the dogs. I got a room in Midland for Tuesday and Alamo agreed to rent me a car in spite of all those felony charges.

I know you live there so I wont give you the sad news concerning the scenery there abouts. What time of the year do tumbleweeds bloom?

Gene

I never knew you owned a Pitts. I'd bet it's a lot easier to talk the Mrs. into a new rifle these days;)
