Ejected brass

New to high power rifle shooting and interested in benchrest competition. For now I have a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. What I would like to know is what methods are you using to capture your expended brass? I understand some will have no ejector and simply pick out the expended casing. Are there other methods used on the firing line? I haven't seen any catch nets on the matches I have attended.

All comments are greatly appreciated as I'm here to learn. Been retired for 3 years now and enjoy the handloading and a challenge.

Thanks ... Larry S.

I'm no gunsmith but you can cut off the ejector spring such that it has just enough force to throw the case out and onto the bench. Have some spare springs on hand if you do this......

Two clamps and a towel

What I have seen at matches, and adopted for certain of my rifles, is to get two woodworker's squeeze clamps of about 18 inches. Squeeze them onto the edge of the bench with the bars sticking up about 18 inches apart. Then, using a few large office clamps, affix a towel or pillow case. The empties will hit this and drop right on the bench. This is especially good when shooting an AR or other automatic from the bench.

I like that clamp idea. Anyone else got a device/approach to share. This certainly can't be a competitive secret. No matter how bush league or cheap, I'm looking for ideas.

Thanks ... Larry S.

Our br guns drop the brass on the bench on a towel. Your tactical gun is designed to clear the brass out, and throw it a long ways with no regard to case damage. Ctk precision makes a catch net that sits on the edge of the bench that i use for that type shooting but have seen the towel on the c clamp method used as well. You can use a cardboard box with one side cut out on the cheap or get some type of brass catching net like used on an ar that mounts to one of the rails- i think caldwell makes one.

Thanks Dusty. Think I'll try a combination of modified ejector spring and an appropriate size catch net. Probably try just a catch net first. Just getting started and I don't want to offend folks adjacent to my bench by having some contraption that affects their shooting.

Nothing breaks concentration like hot brass flying at you! Id try that c clamp towel trick first- wont cost nothin to try! When you get to messing with your ejector try a spring from a ball point pen cut off to the correct length.

Don't get me started - hot brass

Hot brass on my back, down my neck, in my gear...... I've had it all. I only shoot at ranges with gates, and still we get the blasters that don't care where their brass goes. I even had a cop showering me with it. I told one "lady" after she rummaged thru my stuff for the umpteenth time to just get a cardboard box and cut one side off if she didn't like chasing her AR brass in my bags and boxes.

Sorry, just had to rant about that. Muzzle brakes under a tin roof are a rant for another time. If I win the lottery, I'm getting my own range!
