anyone tried one of the EABCO 223 barrels, I getting ready to build 3 rifles(all in 223 on Savage actions) for a dogtown trip, I'm not looking for BR results, just one angle of PD @ 300-400 yards,,,,,,,,,,,,,for $259 bucks uninstalled if there just good shooters you can forget about trying not to run one hot, hell just shoot it till it melts then twist on another one,

the wind is my friend,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Hey Double D,

Your Savage Brother Adrian here... Get in touch with Larry Scott, he sells all sorts of Savage parts. I bought a couple Savage 223 barrels from him.

Dave;
I put an Adams and Bennett .223 pre-chambered barrel on a Remington 700 for a friend. I looked in the bore with my borescope and about fainted; not beautiful. The shooter reported that the prarie dogs that he hit didn't seem to notice the difference. I have no experience with an EABCO but it couldn't possibly look any worse. Seemed to shoot fine.

I also took a chance on a $98 Adams and Bennett 223AI Savage barrel. It is 24" long 1:14 twist, I was hoping it would work with light bullets. I screwed it on, went to the range, put it in the cleaning cradle for cleaning. I think only about half that first patch made it out the other end. This was the worst feeling barrel I could have imagined. Anyway, I fired a round down the tube and it took about 40 patches to clean it. Shot another, again about 40 patches. I repeated this about 15 times before I got real tired of it. I knew I was taking a chance on the barrel, I had heard about half of the barrels were junk. So, I figured I would burn it up and see just what it would do.

I took the fire formed IMI brass and started filling it up with H4198. I had the chrono setup and before I knew it, I was launching them at 4100fps and it was grouping okay. After about 50 rounds I decided to give the cleaning another try. Well, it cleaned up much easier than it did before. I cleaned it well with a bronze brush and KG12. The barrel actually felt okay after I cleaned it up.

I was now curious how it would shoot. I had a ton of 40 grain VMax bullets so that is what I used. Along with IMI brass, Remington 7 1/2 primers and the H4198. I was still shooting them at 4100 fps and it was grouping about .5 at 100 yards. Not bad for a Prairie Dog gun.

I haven't owned an EABCO but I have seen a couple shoot. Equivalent or better than a factory barrel. But for $50 more I would sure put my money in a Shilen.

Adams & Bennett barrel

I bought an Adams & Bennett barreel from Midway for a .22-250 with a 1:14" twist purely as an experiment. Upon delivery, I examined the bore with a bore scope and it was rough looking. I haven't shot it yet but it may be a low priced acceptable alternative for prarie dog shoots where it's typical to burn a barrel out. They have a place in the varmint world.

chino, ive got one of those A&B 22-250 barrels on a k98 mauser. dang good shooter. fouls less than a factory barrel, but more than a good hand lapped custom. prarie dogs fear that cheap azz barrel at 500yds.
