CZ 527 Gunsmith

Can anyone tell me of a good gunsmith who will work on a 527CZ. I have a 204 Ruger Varmint model, that I would like to either rechamber or rebarrel into a 20 Tactical. Thanks, Dave

Two, that come to mind, are Greg Tannel from Gre-Tan Rifles( http://www.gretanrifles.com/ ) and Kevin Weaver( http://www.weaverrifles.com ). I know these two are mentioned with regularity on Saubier.com for work on the 527. If you haven't been to saubier.com, it is a small caliber forum, that is full of first-hand small caliber info.

Dave, What do you plan to gain changing the 204 to tac 20. They are basicly twins. Kenny

Sicero, What I plan to gain is that the 204Ruger is a too long for the clip on the 527. The bullet needs to be seated very deep in the case. Also rifle has a long throat and I can't get anywhere near the lands. The 20 Tactical is just enough shorter that I think it will work better. I plan on using a reamer with a shorter freebore, which will also help. I also believe the 20 Tactical is closer to optimum case capacity for a high speed 20. Plus it has a longer neck and plenty or good brass to pick from(223).This will solve my problem and be a superior cartridge. Dave

Dave, I shortened my CZ 204 chamber and lengthened the neck of the chamber 0.100 with a .233 chucking reamer to eliminate the excessive freebore. I just cut off 204 dies to make brass and resize. I use 223 brass with a neck length like 222. This is not feasable if you can't do it yourself. I now have two rifles with this chamber and they fit the mag also. Rechamber to tac 20 will give you the desired results also. Kenny

Second from left.
