Culver made around 22 actions between 1953 and 1989; I was there for the last one he built....my dad machined one in parallel to include the bolt. Early on, Culver bought bolts from Remington until they stopped selling them standalone. Undeterred, the old guy starting making his own from scratch. To my knowledge, his first and only aluminum was done in 1961. Ralph Stole and Homer were close friends. From that receiver flowed the Stole aluminum patterns.

Any chance you can post the link to it? It may be his 1961 action, albeit re-barreled. There was no 6 BR in '61.

Not trying to bring up a dead thread, but I just purchased the gun in the link and was wanting some more information about it. Lee if you know anything about it or anyone else for that matter I would love it. It does appear to be made of aluminum and has the Remington 722 or clone bolt and trigger. What I can't tell is if the action has always been "hooded" or if this was a later modification. I will try to post pictures tomorrow if this would help.

culver/ stolle action

I think that hood you speak about was , so they could use the early style scopes of the era.
early on all we had was recoiling type scopes and you need a proper length to mount one, weight was a big issue.
trying to make the 10.5 pound class was a bit hard before the fiberglass stocks came in.
saving weight wherever was a big issue.
