Converting .243 brass to .260

I am assembling reloading equipment for my soon to be ready .260. A friend of mine has 300 Federal .243 cases he will give me. Is all I have to do is expand the neck to 6.5, or is there other operations necessary to modify the shoulder? Perhaps passing the case through a FLS 260 die, after neck expanding, is all that is necessary.

I notice that Nosler makes 260 brass. Any experience with their brass, as compared to Remington, or others?

2 steps

I first neck it up to 6.5 and then I run it through my neck bushing die. After that I trim if needed. I have found my batch of remington brass was not too long.

I have a batch of Lapua that I have not necked up yet, but will be soon. I am planning on using the same process.

resizing

To answer your question, yes. It's that simple. About all you're doing is shortening the case .010. I'm not real happy with the Nosler brass. I bought it when there was no Lapua to be found. I too have some Lapua .243 to neck up. It helps, me thinks, to set the bullet in the lands using all the pressure to reform not move the case. Also, some my not agree, but remember, on simple conversions such as these and the .280 Ackley, use bullets, powders that are recommended as you can determine what will work best doing the conversion and or break-in. I made up about 100 rds by just running the fired .243 through a full length .260 die. No problem.

The problem you may find with Federal brass is that it tends to be softer than others so that primer pockets will loosen faster with full power loads than with harder brass (W-W and Lapua).

I had terrible luck with Nosler brass. Love their bullets, hate their brass, biggest waste of money out there for "fancy brass". I shot it in a 260 AI, and was not loading near max. Primer pockets were loose after 3-4 firings. Too soft or something, it was the worst brass I had ever used. Don't waste your time or money....

I took the resizing ball out of a 7-08 die and chucked in in a drill motor and stoned a bit more taper to it and went from .243 to 7-08 w/o a bit of trouble. Some of it was 1x also. Put a bit of lube in the neck and you should be good to go. As far as shoulders and such, I went straight to full house loads again w/o a problem.
