Convert Seat / NS dies from Redding 22-250 to 22-250 AI

I would really like to convert my very high end Redding dies from 22-250 to the AI version; the NS and seater.

AND... I would like them converted with the same reamer that was used on my barrel.

I understand that this is not rocket science; however, my very experienced gunsmith has never done this before and is somewhat reluctant to give it a go.

Can 'yall point me to someplace that gives straightforward instructions to do so for a gunsmith?

I don't know how to say this politely given the tone of your post but, I just don't think you understand what you're asking for.

First of all, there's no such thing as a "very high end Redding die." Redding dies are what they are, cheap, mass produced dies, ALL of them. This is in no way a knock on them. They're fine dies, right there with spec-produced Hornady, RCBS, Forster etc.

I misdoubt your gunsmith "needs straightforward instructions" (Not that any such thing exists.... it doesn't) but that instead he's just been unsuccessful in convincing you that it's not a cost effective solution.

It "can" be done..... I _could_ do it. Your gunsmith _could_ do it if he's actually a gunsmith, with a lathe. I actually have a variety of fixtures I've made specifically for this purpose. It can be done. But absolutely not cheaper than you can buy a custom die.



I'm siding with the gunsmith, IMO you're asking him to do something illogical. Why would you want to pay a lot more to get less?

By "Very High End" do you mean the micrometer seat and bushing neck dies with the floating sleeve? The sleeves are not extremely hard and actually ream fairly easily. All your reamer needs to do is cut the shoulder to the new angle and (maybe) open the body taper slightly. The standard seat die and S type bushing neck dies are quite hard and I would not consider it worth the trouble to anneal and ream them.

You didn't actually say that it was your reamer.
