Testing a .222 Remington this summer.
Observation
Groups Better with 55gr bullet
Score Better with 50gr bullet
I explain as follows:
Lighter bullet less recoil slightly faster allows better 1 shot placement.
Heavier bullet bucks the wind better and bearing surface matches barrel twist better.
The perplexing part someone concur or offer better explanation for the
following observation...
The gun as with most of my rifles groups better with a mid range load at lower case
volume and pressure. OCW and Modified Ladder test load development methods used to
find optimal loads.
Observation the load with the lowest std deviation and extreme spread aren't the
ones that group the best on paper from 100-300yds.
Here is what baffles me. A slightly hotter load than my best grouping load where
the bugholes open up into 3 round cloverleafs shoots better scores on a
score target.
Would think the best grouping load would shoot better scores.
My explanation maybe the slightly hotter higher pressure load has a reduced
std deviation extreme spread such that it is more accurate/precise for 1 round POI.
Anyone else experience this?
