Mike if this your first match hold for dead center with 30-45 seconds to go and fire a sighter round.Make any scope corrections and when the line goes hot start shooting unless a drastic change in the wind has taken place.
You can set up a bench in your garage and practice your loading and unloading of the gun with dummy rounds.Seat the bullets deep so it will cycle smoothly and leave out the powder but keep a spent primer in the cases.
Make your bench comfortable to shoot off of and not all cluttered up with gear so it resembles a regular match condition. While your practicing look for better ways of positioning your gear so you can do everything with your eyes closed.
Don't be afraid to shoot off of the back of the bench.
Good Luck

lynn...and others......
i have a guy i have watched a couple of times.
i have three wind flags.........
one is small and willl be up on the shooting berm. one will be out at about 600.......
there are large wind flags on either side of the range at 1000 and ???? 400 maybe...not sure
plan is to put the 600 yd flag in my scope field of view....well that is the plan.......

more pointers ???
thanks
mike

Is there a designated spot for flags at 600? Or a road? Even with planning putting a flag at 600yds sounds like a 20minute to 1/2hr project. Or much more if it hasn't been done in the past. Might want to get this detail ironed out the day before?

Al,
The range is also set up for NRA Highpower. 600 yards would be the 400yd firing line 400 yards the 600yd firing line etc. As I recall there are markers at each firing line that line up with the designated target number so it shouldn't be too difficult getting them lined up.

Mike,
Hope to see you there this year.

AND AS A SIDE NOTE...TODAY I HAD CATARAC surgery on my dominant eye(left) to be followed on the right when this one is better.....
my next big task is to refocus the scopes on all my rifles....
the potential is for 20/25 in left and 20/20 in right......

al,
i have watched /worked two matches with these shooters. it appears to me that most watch the large side flags and run and gun unless something big happens. two of the shooters watch thier own flags and shoot them. ....that is my plan.
