Collet Chuck

Has anyone with a G4003G lathe purchased a C5 collet chuck and which one would be recommended? Thanks.

Yes,

I bought the Bison 5C collet chuck from Enco (on sale). Had to get the D5 backplate from MSC though. Also got a few collets and the neat little 3" 3-jaw with 5C shank. All went together well and I get maybe .0003" to .0004" runout, so it's not a bad rig, especially for the really small stuff.

Problems, esp. with the small chuck, are that the setup has a lot of overhang and this can help set up some harmonic chatter if you're not careful.

Now honestly if I had it to do all over again and I didn't have to hold really small diameter parts, I would save the money on the collet equipment and spend it on a 6" Bison set-tru 3-jaw and adaptor... again, chuck on sale from Enco and adaptor full price from MSC. Since I got the Bison several months ago, I haven't used the collet rig once.... or the 4-jaw either..

Of course, ymmv.
