do any of u bench shooters clean the bore after u shoot.. do you start with a clean bore before you go to a shoot except for your site ins when you get ther. and if so, why.

Most clean between every target.

If you really want information on this, go to that little box left of the eyeglass at the right top of your screen and type in cleaning.

In 100-200 yard Benchrest with a 22 caliber or a 6PPC, the majority of shooters clean after every group.

However, in 100-200 yard Benchrest where a 30 caliber is used, most of us do not clean untill we go to the next yardage. That means after any where from 35 to 50 fired rounds. I do not personally know why a 30 caliber's accuracy does not drop off, but I have proved to myself that what I say is true.

As for cleaning before a match. I always run a wet patch, then a couple of dry patches through the bore. Just for peace of mind more than anything else..............jackie

Yes. And, Yes. To preserve accuracy.

If you were shooting a .308 in benchrest 100/200 would you clean after every target? I'm getting a Ruger 77 .308 V in September. The gun has been in my smiths closet for 25 years, he bedded it and attached a canjar set trigger. I will also shoot the .308 in 200-600M silohuette. Would you clean after every group in practice.

Stephen, one of the shooters who frequents our Club Matches has a nice Savage in 308 that he shoots in the Modified class. He does not clean it during the match.

Outside of that, we deal mostly in the 30PPC and the 30BR. I don't know what the prevailing thought is among the HBR Shooters, (mostly 30x47's), but the seven HBR Shooters that were at Austin this past weekend did not clean during the yardage...........jackie

i shoot a 223 and 22-250,,,i,ve always run wet patches fairely often,,, rarely a brush,,almost never. but i have one hunting gun in particular that likes to be fouled...... for targets mostly 200rds,i do clean before and after i shoot. just wanted to see how it affected accuracy with you guys. i shoot backyard shoots.. but i,m always serious when i shoot.

I will have to shoot the program at Pala, 50 shots 200 - 600m silohuettes. before I could clean. No time to clean, everybody shoots set up silohuettes and paints.

What I was considering with, in practice, where you can try most anything would you clean the same as you under match shooting.
