Cheap 700 adl 30'06

After bad mouthing remington for the $1200 tomato stake they sold me,
i bought from the other end of their line.
Plastic stock adl in 30'06.
Cabelas less their $50 off...$409
less vet discount, and no sales tax, no background
check fees, and 80 bucks in points, 305 out the door.
Still a $50 rebate to process so $255, sell the cheap scope
it came with for $25 and cost is $230.
Took sierras load data for 165 hpbt and went up and down a bit.
Best 3 shot group about 5/8 of an inch. Plenty fine for a
"hunting" rifle. Stock sucks but it shoots as is.

I've never been to Cabela's, although one just opened up about half an hour from me in Lexington, Ky.
How did you get all of the discounts? I'm a veteran, I can use that one, how did you get the rest of them?
I'd sorta like to get a left hand action and build a target rifle. Arriving at $230 would be inexpensive just for the action alone.

i applied for and got a cabelas credit card.
i use it for about 90% of normal daily purchases.
i do not wait for the bill , i pay it off 2-3 times a week. NEVER PAID ANY INTEREST.
i get cabelas points in return.i had about $80 worth when i bought.
just ask for the vet discount, any id works,,i use va card.
i was in montana...no sales tax..another "discount".
they do not charge for a background check in montana, another "discount".

sell the cheap scope that comes with the rifle, another discount.
while you cannot control sales tax, you can shop were it is low,
rifle purchase out of state is very legal.

i use the cabelas card everywhere..you just have to

Thanks! I need to get in the store and root around. I was talking to a buddy yesterday, he said once you get in there you don't really want to leave. I think I need to give it a try.

Many shooters are under the assumption that as the cost of the Rifles go up, the accuracy potential improves.

The mechanical parts of the old black oxide finished rubber stocked ADL is machined just as "precision" as the high end spit and polished BDL.

if you read my prior experience with the cdl 300wsm,
this rifle is a master piece.

I picked up a .243 and also a 270 Remington 700 ADL synthetic for $329 on sale at Wal-Mart with a $35 mail-in rebate. The thought was to cut them up and turn into something else. Both have the new trigger and the straight spring on the firing pin assembly.

They sat in the safe for a year - and then came out this spring with some loads from the bucket of misc brass. Wow. OK. Went back to Wal-Mart and bought some factory ammunition.
I regret to say that they both shot so well that they both got re-stocked with pretty laminated stocks and are now tied up with pretty little bows as Christmas presents for Grandkids.
 
back to the range today.
i bought a boyds laminated stock for the rifle,
and after a couple of adjustments it is free floated
the entire length of the bbl and torqued in with an
alum trigger guard and an alum front screw spacer.
i gambled on the best previous load but changed OAL in .005
steps, shooting -.010,-.005,000, and +.005
the -.005 shot .61 for three shots.
i'm good.
 
I paid $369 + tax a year ago for a 1965 30-06 BDL at a pawn shop.
I have not rebarreled it yet, but I have 4 others.

you contact Rem, show them targets and ask for a new barrel? Sounds like you got a winner in the ADL though. That's nice!
 
I DID , they said they were temporarily out of tomato stakes.
i do still have the original 300 wsm for sale.
never shot/never looked at the bbl of the replacement rifle.

SIERRA'S book put the hunting load at 2800 fps,
and i was only at 2600. i tried a2495 for velocity,
then loaded up 5 /3 shot loads and headed back to the range.
as silly as it sounds in this big case, i went with 0.2 steps, and had
one group just under an inch, three non-groups and the middle of the
5 loads was right at 2825 and a tad under 3/4".

my buddies say i need to try another powder. what say you guys ?
( i used imr 4064 in the first test)
 
My wife and Me

have 3 Remingtons...she a 722 257Roberts she got from her father, me a 308 722 I bought from a friend and a 721 06 I bought off gun broker. All are pretty accurate, just fine for 100-150 yd hunting situations. But they are completely utilitarian by design. Compared to my M70 FW and FN Mauser they are a fit and finish joke. But, they work for their intended purpose I guess. I've never bought a new Remington rifle, nor will i.
 
if you read it all. i had not bought a new rifle in close to 20 years.
the 300 wsm was the first and it was a piece of sh!t and it was over $1000.
i then went on to build my next rifle, and it was not till the
adl was very cheap that i gave it a try.
i cannot buy a 721/722 for what i paid for the adl.
