Sloughhouse Benchrest Shooters will be holding a "Chabot Special" Group/Score Benchrest match this Saturday 8/5 at the Sac Valley shooting Center.
This is one of our favorite matches of the year as it has something for everyone. Named after the old Chabot Shooting Range
in the East Bay hills (long since closed down), it was shot at 200 yards only because of the topography of that range.
We shoot for both group and score on the same target (kind of like LR BR) format is as follows:
CHABOT SPECIAL MATCH
This match will be shot on the caliber specific UBR 200 YD score target, 6 record bulls in 2 rows of 3, with sighter bulls in the middle.
We will separate each target into two 3 bull halves and shoot the match in 4-20 minute relays of 3 bulls each with a 5 shot group on each bull.
60 shots for record plus unlimited sighters.
We will take a short break after each relay to collect the targets, clean, etc. Targets will be scored for both group and score.
You can shoot whatever weight/class gun you want, BR pistols welcome, no weight limit, caliber .30 or less. We would prefer no muzzle brakes but will try and be as accommodating as possible. Please try and be considerate of your fellow shooters, after all these are Benchrest matches. Were not used to big boomers.
Match fee is $30.00, please bring exact change. $20.00 goes to Club expenses/range fees, etc. $10.00 goes back to the shooters as cash awards, with payouts to the top 3 in score, group, and top 4 in OA as determined by your place in the 2 categories, lowest score wins.

This is always a fun match, with the 30's duking it out with the 6's for bragging rights, and requires a little strategy to do well in the overall.
Gates open at 7:00, go directly to Range 11 check in & draw your bench, we will try and start as close to 8:00 as possible, get done early and be gone
before the forecasted high of 100+ in the afternoon.
Hope to see you there!

We had a beautiful morning of shooting at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center with 9 shooters showing up for the 2nd Chabot Special
(see above for description) of the year.
Weather was warm with the usual switchy breezes that you get here in the Ione Triangle. We started with a reverse condition out of the East but by Target 2 we were back to our usual switchy wind from the west.
On to the match:
Target 1 was hotly contested for both Score and Group, Greg Wilson, & Ron Pepper both shooting nice 308 scores with Lane Buxton close behind at 306. Group was taken by Greg Wilson with a .6527 agg, Lane 2nd with a .6560 agg, Ron 3rd at .6662.
Target 2 was a little more difficult but long time Score shooting aficionado Francis Lee taking both Score with a nice 304, edging out Steve Raeder at 300, & Steve Epstein at 299 and taking the group agg with a .8465, the only other sub-inch agg being Ron Peppers .9547.
New BR shooter Roy Luchini bought new flags and they must work cause he snuck into 3rd with a 1.0245.
The Grand Aggs aka The Money match were as follows:
Score:
1st Francis Lee 607
T-2 Lane Buxton 604
T-2 Steve Epstien 604
Group:
1st Ron Pepper .8104
2nd Francis Lee .8326
3rd Lane Buxton .8440
OAL Match Aggregate Group&Score
1st: Francis Lee 3 points
T-2: Ron Pepper 5 points
T-2: Lane Buxton 5 points
4th: Steve Epstien 8 points
Everyone had a great time, this is really a fun match to shoot, complete results attached.
Hope to see everyone next month for the 100/200 NBRSA VFS Score match, although there is some talk of doing another Chabot. I'll keep ya'll posted.

This a very easy way for any club to hold a BR match. No Backers

Dan,
I couldn’t agree more! Once we get the logistics of the scoring tightened up a bit we should be golden. As we discussed last night I think coming up with a 3 bull target so we aren’t waiting 2 relays to start scoring is probably the way to go. In the meantime we can always cut the existing ones in half😜
Not bad shooting with the pistol!

PS: I didn’t mention this in the match report but we had 5 30’s and 4 6PPC’s including Dans pistol.

FYI,
To everyone who has expressed interest in our Chabot Special matches, we appreciate the input.
Match Director Dan sent out an e-mail to our regular participants polling them on the interest in shooting a Chabot Special on Sat Sept. 2nd instead of our regularly scheduled (unregistered) 100/200 NBRSA Score match. Once we get some feedback I'll post what the plan is on here so everyone is in the loop.

Another item that we are working on is a target with just 3 bulls and sighters, mainly to help expedite the scoring. When the scorer (me) is measuring groups and scores and has to wait until the 1st (6-bull) target gets back the scoring gets behind very quickly, I appreciate everyones patience, but I would still like to be able to keep up a little better.
Sample of what we are working on attached, 11x17 so would fit our Std wailing wall.
I have my ace graphics guy Steve Epstien working on it. The plan would be to have a caliber specific (.243/.308) 3 bull target with sighters down both sides as illustrated. 22/6/6.5 would use the 243, & 7mm/30's would use the 308. Any comments feel free to give your feed back.
