Case sorting

I have a question I have been pondering for quite some time: When is the best time to sort your cases by weight? Out of box, or after case prep, or somewhere in between? I trim, flashhole deburr, pp uniform, neck turn, inside and outside case mouth deburring, and thats about it.

Don't shoot that game but seems to me it ain't apples to apples until you fireform & then trim to your standard.

uniforming primer pockets removes brass, lowers weight, does not affect volume
flash hole deburring inside removes brass lowers weight, does affect volume
trim to length, removes brass, lowers weight...but as it is above the bullet does not affect volume.
turning necks, removes brass, lowers weight, but as it is on the outside, does not affect volume.
inside neck reaming, removes brass, lowers weight.....probably does not affect volume...depends on bullet seating...only you will know...
so if you chose to sort by weight, turn the necks, fire form...do all other steps (size to get oal correct)and then clean well and do your weight sort.
some short range guys say you cannot tell the diff with lapua and 6ppc....

I sort new brass right out of the box. Set your standard (plus or minus 1% or whatever) and set the culls aside for other uses. You'll be surprised how good the supposedly terrible Remchester stuff is.
