All,

California Assembly bill AB962 was signed by the governor. Amongst other restrictions, no mail order or Internet ordering of ammunition that is "principally" used for a handgun. You can get locally, if you wish to provide personal information and a thumbprint. No chance I am doing that.

Some vendors already will not sell firearms products to California, simply because they don't understand the regulations or they are too complex to hassle with. Expect more of this with this bill, now potentially affecting BR. How? The bills has two ammunition definitions, one that includes "cartridges", and "bullets". It can be understood, but will a vendor understand it or take the chance. Some already don't with firearms or AR parts that come to CA, that ARE legal. Handgun ammunition is defined as ammunition that is "principally" used in a handgun. ??? What about 22LR?

www.calguns.net fought this very hard, and is mounting a counter offensive, and court is the only way I expect. Funds are limited though, there are are about 33,000 members.

As some of you know, I have been nosing around BR for a while, asking many questions, exploring what kind of shooting will be good for me. The passage of this bill puts a serious damper on any enthusiasm for that. It is too earlier to tell what the full impact will be, but not so interested in investing heavily into the sport, if I can't even buy a 'freakin bullet over the Internet, or without a thumbprint!

Expect hoarding. I know I will be, although I don't want to. I can stop doing that when I manage to escape this horrible state.

Law goes into effect 2/1/2011.

Total stupidity! Makes me wonder why anyone lives there anymore.

For me, because I can't find anywhere else to live right now where my wife and I can both find well paying jobs. I have even looked at where you are, Billings Montana, and I don't even like cold weather. But, at this point, I dislike California and all of its many ills even more.

But at least you now have a HARVEY MILSAP day. I know that will make up for any lack of rights you may have lost.:D

It's probably less expensive to live in places other than CA, but mostly they're places that may not have the best climate. BTW, it's been below freezing here for a high temp for the past few days....

Just about ANY place is less expensive than where I am now, (San Ramon, CA). Look at http://www.bestplaces.net/, and compare my city to Billings. On the cost of living scale, Billings is 87, the average for the U.S. is 100, and I am at 177. But, below freezing for a high temp...too severe for this southern raised boy.

I guess the marksmen of KA will have to take rides once in a while to neighboring state-ammo run.

OR is that somehow illegal?

No, not illegal, yet. Such runs are already being discussed and will surely happen.

Such runs are already happening :D

I talked to a guy today who was just in Vegas where a dealer set up and sold 3 SEMI LOADS of ammunition in one morning........ to "out of state buyers." The parking lot was full of CA plates.

Bowling Green, Kentucky. Florence, Alabama. Rogers, Arkansas. Lots of good places to move to in this country, outside of Kalifornia.

Ironic isn't it....

This bill was signed by a governor that played murdering heros in films practically his whole career. Now that's hypocrisy personified.

you got 15 months before it takes effect, should be able to lay in quite a good supply by then

What was the idea behind this bill? Was it to prevent criminals and minors from purchasing ammo? Thank God I live in Michigan. We have the largest armed militia in the world, and we are going to stay that way!

No, it was designed to catch them after they bought the ammo, and probably even used it to do commit some other crime.

You see, the idea is that when criminals come into to buy ammo, they can buy all they want like any other person. But they have to give a thumbprint and other info. Apparently, a few criminals, the truly dumb ones, actually did not walk out of the store at this point, but in fact, did provide the print and personal info. Then, once in a great while, if ever, law enforcement, when they have the time, will stop by the store and peruse through all the records the store has, and see if they recognize or cross reference any names to known felons and other bad guys. If they find a match, then they go get the bad guy and if they find ammo at his place, they arrest him, since he is not supposed to have the ammo. This gets a few bad guys off the street.

Now, once word gets around in the seedy world of criminals, these guys will no longer be buying because they might be identified. Heck, they are criminals, they will just steal it, creating more crime. The blackmarket should thrive. But this all works perfectly for De Leon, the bill's author.

De Leon will see these developments as problems, oblivious or purposely not admitting that he caused them, and author more legislation to "fix" these problems, with consequences sure to make it as difficult as possible for law abiding citizens to buy ammo. Over time, he crushes the ability to buy ammo all under the guise of passing laws in the interest of public safety.

Yeah, I can see where a real problem would arise. You would have to separate all the politicians from the other criminals.:D

Now that's funny, but true. The Congressional House Republican candidate, Brad Goehring, running in my district (CA - 11th District) is more like it. I wrote him about firearms, and he wrote back stating he may be the only candidate in the U.S. that has a Concealed Carry Weapons permit. He is solidly behind the 2A. He is running against a vulnerable Jerry McNerney (D). He has a decent chance against McNerney I think.
