just recently bought a Remington 700 SPS Tactical .223. mainly for some precision shootin. plan on a budget build on this setup. not tryin to break the bank but want a good setup with some decent adjustment, etc...
average yardage will be in the 300 yard range or so maybe a little less.
will be mounted on a one piece base with Burris Extreme tactical rings(medium height). been lookin around for a while but just wanted to get some opinions from folks with different setups. most of the guys i have talked to are using the Leupold Mark 4 or somethin similar but im not wantin to spend $1500 or so on a scope. thanks for the opinions.

If you are shooting paper, consider a Weaver T36. You can find them for around $400. They work just fine on my Benchrest rifles. They come in black or silver

Ditto on the Weaver T36. I have seen them cheap as $369 on some sites. Weaver also makes a T24 I think, if 36 is to much power. If there is such a thing.:)

anybody have any recomendations on bases and rings???

There's a lot to be said for fitting Burris Signature Zee rings with the plastic inserts. They stop the rings from marring the scope & can be used to true up scope alignment or give it a tad more lean with the appropriate offset insert if that's needed.

I've ditched the slotted lock screws on all of mine & drilled & retapped the base for 4 mm cuphead screws for a better lockup on the base(s).
