Has anyone had any email from Bruce lately?, my last couple of emails to him dont seem to have got through.
 
I have tried that email and have had no luck. I tried calling Bruce today and got his voice mail.

I spoke to Bruce moments before my response to Mike A and that's the email he gave me. I just sent him one using that address and it apparently went through. Try it again.

I know this thread is old, but I am having the same problem.
I paid for a stock in October 2009, I still have not received the correct stock from them. I have made at least 100 phone calls and and emails to them. I have never received any response from them. Only a friend of mine who lives there has been able to get in touch with them on various occasions.
What are your opinions?

I talked to him two weeks ago. It took him three weeks to get back to me. He said he fell on the ice and broke his ankle.
 
Talked with him yesterday afternoon. Woke him up from his siesta.

He is normally asleep right underneath his phone. You have to holler and wake him up and wait for him to pick up. :D

Well he finally contacted me after 5 months. He was not a very nice person. I will never do any business with him again. Still awaiting stock.

That doesn't sound like a behavior typical of Bruce. Most smiths have a waiting list, some up to 1 year or more. I've learned when dealing with the gentlemen in this industry your best virtue had better be patience.

The stock was promised within 1 month as I had also purchased a rifle.
 
I am with Vinnie. I dont know Bruce personally, but I do have a friend who considers Bruce a close friend & from what I know of him (Bruce), it does not sound like the Bruce Baer I have heard about.

Getting a custom stock made, is a long drawn out process and they are well worth the wait. I would figure a wait time of 6-8-10 months should be expected from a well known/in demand Smith such as Baer to be prob average. Like Vinnie said, patience is a virtue.. :cool:

Bruce does not actually make his own stocks (or rests), his wife runs the duplicator. If you are just looking for a blank, she would make it. If you need it inletted, then Bruce would need to set it up on the mill for the inlet. Get in line, it is a FIFO if all the parts are there.

Right, wrong, or indifferent, I too have chosen to use another gunsmith after having Bruce build two 1000 yard guns for me. Let's just say that when you barter services outside of standard cash transactions, get it in writing. I wish no ill will towards Bruce, and hope he's back in the shop soon.
 
Hate to say it but I was also told the "1 month" deal. I would have lost my deposit if a buddy that had a stock done wouldn't have pushed the issue for his payment. I am local to Bruce and have heard countless similar stories. Sorry for the negative post but this is first hand experiance not someone else's story.

Yeah, very true. I have e-mails that prove that what I "thought" was the deal was agreed to, otherwise the e-mails would not have been sent to me. Then, once my end of the deal was complete, it changed back to what was easiest for "the other party" in the barter. It is water long past under the bridge at this point.

Funny thing though, I performed the same service for another gunsmith under the "gentleman's word and a handshake" and it worked out just great. I know beyond what I had hoped it would be, and I will continue to work until exceeding his expectations also.

Bruce is a hell of a guy and never did me wrong !! If you were ever at his shop he is a 1 man show and if he answered his phone ever time it rang he would not get anything done !! To be there and listen to his answering machine most of his call are people that want him to answer little b.s. Questions all day so i can see it on his side too !!

Frankly,i don't see where this post is going,If a guy has a problem with a fella he should take it up with him,not bash him on the internet(to which I can Guarantee Bruce don't give a crap about or even look at).I'm a small business fella and can attest to "can't make everybody happy",so obviously they will be the ones on the soap box yelling.Bruce has been in the business for a long time and most likley will have sucess even with the ones on this thread who are not satisfied,and the one who will never be happy.
He has done work for me and does a great job,and answers his phone(except during hunting season)he did work when he said but also took longer too,guess what, I'm still here and eveything is fine.
Also, I would guess if a guy would tick him off YOU Can Bet he won't return your calls or emails,its just Bruce.
These types of post really piss me off,why doesn't someone post something that can help shooters groups or how to read winds at 1000yds.
