I have a small problem here an would like some help. What I have is a custom 30-378 weatherby mag.The problem is that times the bolt will open hard an you can see that about a 1/4" above the belt there is scuff marks. Not all the cases do this an it dont mater weather its your first cold bore shot or its your 5th.Out of the 20 shots fired today 7 of them had to take the rifle out of the rest an beat the bolt open with the palm of my hand.I have not seen any preasure sings on the primers are nice an flat the bolt unlocks easy just ejecting the fired case can be a work out.The shots where fired over a 3 hour period so it wern't from a hot chamber like a stuck case,an all the loaded rounds chambered easy.So any info here would be helpful.

The only thing that I have is a set of calipers. The ones that I measured are .584 an.585.Thinking that i need to some how resize the area just before the belt, but how.

Thanks Butch I realy an greatfull for the guys like you who are willing to help us guys that are still tring to get a handle on everything.I also measure some more of the brass an there was some at .586.Thanks again.

Read the second paragraph under the area entitled "Dies made from chambering reamers - ..." at this link: http://www.6mmbr.com/CarstensenJLC01.html. :)

I don't believe it will work. Larry's link: http://www.larrywillis.com/. Click on "Articles About Our Die" on left side. "This collet die is universal and it works on all belted magnum cartridges (except 224, 240, 378 and 460 Weatherby)." :(

You would not believe the huge quantity of once fired belted mag cases here in Alaska people give away because of this problem. Larry's die work, I run every case through his die now before I proceed one step further. For the reloader, loading belted cases, it is hands down the best thing since sliced bread, Only down side to his die is I did not know about it forty years sooner. :D

Since the belt is cosmetic, would it be possible to chuck the case in a drill motor and using a fine mill file or even steel wool, turn down the belt a couple of thousands. It shouldn't affect the accuracy should it?

Case separation be thy name. The die not only stops the problem but gives it no room for further growth.
