So today my father starts emailing me at work about the pistols of his that are at my house so I brought them over to his house when I got out of work. I kind of got the impression he was getting something new. He was holding out on the details till we headed out to his garage when he handed me his HS Precision Pro Hunter Lightweight rifle chambered in 300 WSM and topped w/a Swarovski 4-12X. Says he can't get it too shoot for him this year, who am I to argue as he's handing me a $4000 rig  He earned it by working at a local gun shop, traded hours for guns.

This thing weighs 6.5 pounds as it sits and shots a sub 1/2" group @ 100 yds has a friging sweet trigger. Here is a link showing what it looks like. http://www.hsprecision.com/new_phl.htm it has a brown web stock w/a black teflon coated barrel, this thing heats up pretty quick, I could never guess why :D

Needless to say I'm extatic and all giddy so I had to post up w/my news, thanks for reading

Raypla: Nice rig for sure!
I am a little confused though - did your father "give" the Rifle to you as in permanent gift or did he give it to you to use for this Big Game season?
Either way that would be a dandy thing!
The 300 WSM is getting pretty popular here in the Rocky Mountains and the high plains!
It does about everything that needs done hereabouts.

He gave it to me for good :D Only conditions are that 1.) I can not sell it, which is fine by me 2.) that if he ever wants to use it or my SAKO 75 SS 300 win mag, he can. It'd be really nice if in a few years I could afford to take my father and myself on a caribou, moose, or some other North American big game hunt some where in the US, we would both have ample cal for most anything around on this continent.

He traded a Ruger 9mm, a 44 mag 8" barrell, and a 357 for a Browning 7mm-08 X-bolt w a Vari X-II 3-9X50, straight up, it's a pretty nice set up but I definately made out on the deal, before he handed it to me I had no clue that I was getting anything and was a pretty darn big suprise.

Two years ago I went out west to go pheasant hunting with my (very successful) son. About a week before Christmas. I hadn't been bird hunting for years and had given all my shotguns to each of my three sons as they moved away from home. So I went out and bought a Rem 870 express youth model in 20 ga (on sale at Dick's for about $200), so I'd have something to shoot. (I like a short length of pull and it actually it was a nice little gun) I sort of had it in the back of my mind of leaving it out there for my grandson's use. I was unpacking my stuff and my son saw that shotgun and said: "You going to use that? I guess I better give you your christmas present early!". He went and came back with a Ruger Red Label new in the box in 12 ga with the engraving and the gold pheasant on it. I sort of welled up inside and almost cried. I handed the 870 to my grandson and said:"Well, I guess you got yourself a shotgun."

Finally got around to taking some pics, pardon the background its hunting season

Got a shooting buddy thats had medical problems and he was thinking he wouldn't last too much longer. Got to the point that he couldn't hardly walk out to the target boards with me. When I'de meet him at the range, I would pack his gear to the bench for him. Whenever we meet at the range, it's a "good" day. One day we were unloading our gear and he threw a gun case into the back of the truck. He said "We'll talk about it later".
In the case was a almost new AR with less than 50 rounds through it. The next trip he brought 2 extra cases with lots of "extras" and 2 uppers.
He has since got the medical problems under control but he won't take any of the "things" back. And we're not even related. How's that for a friend?
I'de rather have him around for a long time than all the "things" in the world.
Friends should last forever. I guess we're family and didn't even know it. :D
