On the water to the US is benchmark powder lot # ending in 5358. When it gets to dealers in about 8 weeks might be worth looking into.

When Benchmark was first introduced, I stopped by Bob Grafs on the way back from a pheasant hunt and bought a case of 1#'s. I still have a couple of bottles unopened because I found that lot a bit too slow for what I was wanting in velocity at the time.
Did it not shoot? It shot ok but like I said a bit too slow for the velocity I was wanting. Later I learned there is no magic velocity, just crank it up or down till it works. (Another reason I have not singled out a hummer?)
This current lot, on the way, is supposed to be somewhat less temperature sensitive according to the tests ran on its sample. Only about 10-20 fps variation from 0F to 110F. Apparently grain structure length has some effect on this parameter since chemically this is the same.

Worked for me today
I tried 27 gns today in my new 220 Beggs - first time ever with this cartridge.
Shot extremely well for me. Looking forward to the next match in 3 weeks!

I've tried Benchmark in the past and it wouldn't group well when pushed hard. Back off the throttle though and things tightened-up. My only real knock was the lot I had burned dirty. But maybe that isn't the case with the latest batch.

The particular batch I mentioned is still on the water to the US. It is simply a refinement of the BM we get here. As mentioned above there is a BM1 and BM2. We don't get both. Why? IIRC, our H322 is too similar to the one we don't get.
And, as mentioned by Jim Benchmark powder is an Aussie product. It is made by Thailes (sp) in Aussyland.

It was a joke about Aussie powder. Some where on here....IMR-8208XBR was released in US Before Australia. If I remember, a bunch of Aussies were a little upset....And the Australian military snipers and police had 7.62 ammo with 8208XBR......

Close. The IMR8208XBR was actually a residual of some powder made for a NATO contract for 308 sniper loadings.

Benchmark powder is made at Mulwala, not far from where I live. In a previous life as a Warrant Officer I visited the factory and asked the guys a few questions.
The climate here in Oz can vary from a bit cold at - minus a few degrees to well over 100. Our diggers like to hit the target every time, so temperature sensitivity is very important. Now I might be a bit biased but it is very good powder, give it a fair go. It can handle the heat.

This new batch that is on the water to the US tests about 10FPS variation from 0F to 100F according to Hodgdons tests.

Not that to get and KEEP a tune, there isn't an adjustment required for ANY powder. .. But over the years...
I must admit >in the 6ppc< and not a blend..... Benchmark has been pretty dary good on stable/smooth tune through temp/humidity swings.. >for me<. And... Over the years both Benchmark AND H322 AND H4198 have kept a VERY tight set of each powders charicteristics.. I.E. Burn rate and kernal size... Basically near 0 variation from Lot to Lot over the years... FINE job from those in Mulwala. An... P.S. Make More....

I don't want to give brands but I was told by the tester of the distributor that it is not unusual at all for some products on the market today to vary 70-80 in the 0-100F test. How this relates to tune would depend, mostly, on how wide the tune window is for that particular assembly.
Now, on a hummer we could...........
