Bench Rest shooting in Colorado

I have never shoot bench rest, don't own a custom gun. I have read a number of books on the subject. Newick, Ratigan, Boyer, Vaughn. To name a few. I have reloaded for years and have some custom barrel chamberings for Contender. .308Bellm, .375Bellm, .17 Rem Fireball(custom built tight neck)and a Ruger 77 MarkII Target in 22PPC. I shot from a benchrest on an indoor 100 yrd "Tube" year around. I hunt big game and P-dogs. Would like to get started with Competition Bench Rest.
Are/is there a club near Denver or shooters in the area? It's winter so I'm guessing that most don't do much shooting. I have access to an indoor 100 yrd range and would be grateful if I could find someone willing to get me started.
I'll be building a gun and wonder if there are any benchrest smiths in the colorado area.

Thanks.

WARNING!
Once you purchase a custom 6 PPC your shooting life will never be the same! Welcome!
Lots of BR in Colo, mostly on the west side near Grand Junction and northern Colo. Someone will chime in and be more than willing to help you. Get a mentor, they will save you time and money. Get a rifle and wind flags, start practicing have fun, its great to shoot with people that love to shoot. Gunsmiths > Dan Dowling comes to mind in Clifton, Co. - Greg Tannel. You are in the heart of BR.

so you shoot at cherrry creek CLUB......LUCKIE YOU.
i think they still shoot at ault, and 1000 yds at byers(ibs).
we shoot club matches at the aurora gun club....gunclub road
300 people on the waiting list, but guest can shoot a match.
come by on a sat or sunday and pick up match rules from the br shed/building.
third sat of the month if i remember correctly.

Mike,
Before moving to Kansas I lived in Denver and shot at the Aurora Gun Club. Attended lots of the monthly rifle matches. Great bunch of guys shot in the score matches and I got to know almost everybody. Did you shoot there because I don't remember you? What matches did you shoot in? Did you shoot in any of the Larry Watson matches?

Thanks Marty and Mike. Guess I am lucky to be shooting in an indoor range. It affords me the oppurtunity to shoot in any weather. I'll get my name on the list at Aurora. From what I've read I will get a 6mm PPC 10.5 lb with the weight increase ability to shoot heavy also. Seems that flags are as important as a gun and learning to read the wind is vital. I've started to look at the adds in Precision Shooting and The Shooters Corner. Boy they have lots of used stuff. Tough to figure out if I'd be getting a good gun. Rather not get somebody's problem child. And the quest for a mentor begins.
Any and all help will be most appreciated.
Thanks.

the aurora gun club "club br" matches are hunter 6x/over30-30 case, varmit any scope, heavy sniper any scope. all three of those ARE FACTORY classes. the fourth class is open br...where real br guns show up. this is all score. we also have rimfire in 2 clases sporter/6x and target/any scope.....50 yd matches.
low entry fee/low pressure fun matches...well till the br guns come out...
we even have a 6 gun yearly champ at the annual watson shoot.....

Mike,
I know all those guys! I'm still trying to place you. I did not shoot the AR's. I was the guy that shot the black Hart 1-A 6PPC in the open class. I also shot an Anschutz 17 HMR in the rimfire target and a Cooper .17 M-4 in the factory varmint. Big tall guy with grayish hair. Last time I shot in the Watson was 2010. I won the open and the rimfire target. Great bunch of guys that I miss a lot. I also started shooting the factory Savage single shot 6 BR in the factory varmint. Never lost with that rifle.

Get in with those boys Tatco. They are great people.

Mike,
When you see Harold again tell him Aaron says Hi. Didn't really get the chance to say good bye to those guys. Fairly sudden move.
