Getting close to finishing my HV PPC and had a question on bedding. I plan on pillar bedding the action with Devcon 10110, no glue-in to start but I may down the road (it really depends on how it shoots). Incidentally, we've done both in the past with good results. The stock is a McMillan Edge.

My question is do any of you bed the first inch or two of the barrel? Or do you free-float the entire tube? Again, we've done both and I haven't seen much of a difference. I'm no expert on the subject and wanted to see what you guys prefer.

Thanks guys and that's what I thought.

BTW, back in 1991 we did a barrel glue-in on my 222. Devcon'd 9 inches of the barrel and free-floated the action. Did so for the hell of it and it shoots really well. Easy to tune and extremely consistent. I know in the past folks have been weary of the technique but it worked on that gun. Of course we may have gotten lucky....not sure I'd do another one like it.

Not sure how it would hold-up to heavier recoiling rounds like the 30BR. On 22's and 6's, if you use a strong compound it'll hold.

Again, this was a bit of an experiment. H.L. Culver talked us into trying it on this 222. Of course, we weren't the first to do it. I even seem to remember a Precision Shooting article on the technique in the 80's. Some got great results with barrel glue-ins, others shot mediocre.

Mine is rock solid after 24 years and its been a joy to tune.
