I am looking at a 6.5-284 rifle. The twist is a 1:9. This seems a bit slow?? I figured a 1:8 or 1:8.5 would be the best. Any thoughts or input?

Take care,Stan

It would depend entirely on the length/weight of bullet you wish to use...

Shilen's twist chart shows:

6.5mm/.264
- 8" for bullets heavier than 130gr.
- 8"* Ratchet rifled 4 groove
- 9" for bullets up to 130gr.

I have a 30" Krieger and use 142 SMK wit a 8.5 twist. Shoots very well!!!! Greg

Why dont you do a switch barrel with the rig you just had built. Get yourself a blank in an 8 twist and go fresh!! I know were you can get the barrel chambered and back in 2 weeks. If your interested in my smith contact info let me know. He is very very very good!!!!!!!! Lee
