Barrel life question

6X284 What would be the expected barrel life using 8 twist barrel and 107 Sierras and whatever a suitable powder would be. 500? 1000? more? less? Just trying to get a best guess idea.

Let's see, I've gotten as many as 1,200 rounds of 6.5 X 284 down the barrel with 20 round strings before the barrel looked just like a dry lake bed. For about the first 8 inches.

So depending on your particulr application I wouldn't expect anything much past 800 rounds.

He said a 6mm, not a 6.5mm. Bill Shehane's the expert on that one. But I shot a 6/284 with the reamer held in .200, which gives the same capacity as a 6 Ackley. Barrel life was about 750. You never can tell with a barrel, some of the one that look awful will still shoot. But the velocity will be down. If you can get 500 rounds at match accuracy, I think you've gotten your money's worth with a 6/284.
