Barrel life for a 300 WSM

Ben,

I have a barrel that I bought back in 2001, that I just had Clay Spencer replace. It was on a HG that I built for my late wife. It was still competitive at over 4500 rounds. I believe that this was abnormal, as I only get about 2500 to 2800 rounds out of my 300 Win Mag barrels.
I have a Spencer barrel on my 300 WSM LG, and I am going to watch it to see how many rounds it takes to wear it out.

I am sure that someone else on here has worn one out and can give better info.

I think 30 cal. barrels are going to last you a lot longer than the 6mm.& the 6.5 if taken care of and cleaned the right way. Like Danny, I have one a Krieger with almost 4000 round through it, had it rechambered and won the world open in H.G. for score. And the 300 wsm is an OUTSTANDING CHOICE.

Been lurking for some time, buy the way I am a new guy and want to say HI to everyone, good info, I plan to build a 300 WSM and will continue to read what ever you guys have to say. I have been shooting 1000 yards for some time, now it's time to try a smaller caliber and continue to have fun........Mark

Twist rate

For 210 grain projectiles I'm guessing a 1:11 twist is the way to go?

With the 300 RSAUM as well as the 300 WSM?

In all conditions (altitude and barometric pressure included)?

TIA
Ben

Welcom Mark, It's a good place to lurk...

Ben,

I caught your post on the other thread about having a 12 twist barrel to wirk with. I would try using the 210s with that twist. But I do know that you will get 185 VLDs to work with that twist. But I would also recommend getting a 10 twist for the 210s. Anything slower in my experience has not been all that consistent with the 210s.

Good luck,
Danny

Thanks Danny, I'll shoot a 25 shot spread and see how they look. Still working on the reamer.
