Not sure if this is the right place for this or not... I have a Rem 788 that still shoots decent, but it would not bother me a bit to experiement with it. If I mess it up - oh well.
One of my rifles has barrel vents in the forened and I like the idea. But why have anything there at all? The wood does not support the barrel and all the wood is for on a bench gun would be for the front rest, correct? What would be the draw back of sawing the barrel channel completely off leaving only the bottom part that could still sit in the front bag? In other words, there would be a gap (that you could see through easily) between the barrel and the forend. Are there rules against such a thing?
