So I'm looking into the future with this question and would appreciate any advice you guys could give me.
I'm currently shooting a remington 700P in.223 thats had the action trued, firing pin bushed, bedded, jewell trigger and a 12-42x nightforce.
I'm wanting to shoot at longer ranges (maybe even 1000yards someday) so I'm thinking eventually of having a new barrel put on it. (then mcmillan a5 or robertson tactical)
I'm thinking about a 28" Krieger with a fluted #17 Heavy Varmint Contour.
Am I on the right track? I'm not concerned with weight, I'm not lugging this gun around the field (got others more suitable). Maybe shoot the odd groundhog at long range to see what I'm capable of etc. (So far its never seen anything but the bench).
I'm thinking the length/calibre/contour is a good compromise for long range shooting and maybe some lazy varminting? Haha.
If I'm figuring correctly I'll end up with a rifle in the 16.5lb range when finished (12.5lb now)?
Don't want to screw up a barrel order for this rig.
thanks!
