Balvar 24 target scope problem

Howdy! I have an old Balvar 24 barrel mounted target scope that I like a lot. It is currently getting swapped around on a few vintage rimfires. I saw another one that had a problem of the little black flecks of something or other inside the scope. I thought about buying it as the price seemed reasonable, BUT...... I have no clue of what it costs to send to Bushnell, I guess (If I remember right they bought Bausch & Lomb) to get it repaired.

Anyone know what it costs to get this fixed and where to send it for sure?

Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Greg

BalVAR 24

I had mine cleaned by B&L in Rochester,NY may years ago. My brother bought one about 10 years later and had to send it to Bushnell in Calif. The crosshair is etched on glass and I believe the specks are from the etching that smeared on the glass. After the specks were taken out they never came back in either scope.

I have had several of the 6 x 24 B & L Scopes. The black flecks that you see on the glass of the reticule are bits of the anti-glare coating that was applied to the inside of the tube. Once properly cleaned out they should not reappear.

I've had a bunch of Bausch&Lomb scopes over the years including a 6-24X but mainly the 2.5-8X. Bushnell used to clean and repair these scopes for the price of return postage. Now, they will send you back a form letter saying the 25-year warranty has expired and parts are no longer available. I sent in a 2.5-8X a couple of months ago with the same problem mentioned above--flecks of anti-glare tube coating in the field of view. They would not disassemble it and clean it. They offered me a discount on a currently made Bushnell scope.

The black flecks are a very common problem in these old B&L scopes that ranges from minor to major. If it's minor to moderate the scope is still functional.

A friend of mine sent in a 2.5-8x with what looked like oil droplets in the field of view. A Bushnell technician told him it was mold growing on the cement holding the lens elements together. Seems strange to me. They wouldn't fix it for him.
