Balls for flags.

I am looking for foam or hollow plastic balls for wind flags.
I need 4" 2 color black and 1 bright preferably neon color.

I had bought some Poof balls that worked perfect from Wally world but they dont have any more.
I looked on Amazon and ebay but cant find what I need.
I have used the Pyro tech balls but I can only find 3". They actually work best for me....

Any one have any ideas or sources?

2 Years ago I had ordered some that were 2" like Grahms but they were to small for these old eyes. Thats why I went to the poof (nerf) balls.
The original ones are actually pyrotechnic artillery balls. Soooo I just decided to do the google routine and finally found some 4" ones.
Since they are in 2 parts I can paint one half and I can can weight them to balance the flags better.

Mike I dont like the wheels and the balls help me better determine whether something is say 10 oclock vs 7:30 or vice versa.....

You know George you might be right!

You might like my "flags." They are cylinders 8-10" in diameter with a black circle on the front, white circle on the back, and the usual orange and green arrows on the sides. Each of the four symbols is roughly the same size, so it's easier to tell the direction of a quartering wind.

I keep getting "not a valid image file.":( It's a jpg and only 121K. Can anyone tell me the problem with this new system? I could post pictures in the old system.

Keith - When you reply, pick the "Go Advanced" button. Then in the "Additional Options" box choose "Manage Attachments". Loading your picture that way should allow it to show up.

I have designed a flag that so far works great for me.
The veins are extra large coroplast and I use 2 tails for reading the velocity. Surveyors tape on top and tinsel on the bottom. I use the large balls so I can see the difference in NW and SW or NE and SE. It seems past 50 yards I am starting to have difficulty seeing the angle diff if Im in a hurry. Since I dont have a lathe I made the original out of parts from the hardware store. But a friend I shoot with kept wanting a set so I gave him the design that I wanted for the pivot post as they have rare earth magnets and he made me a set of pivots as well. So now I have to take off the balls I have but since I ended up gluing them on I know I will have to replace them with new ones. That was the reason I was looking for a source. I had originally tried the pyro shells but at 2 1/2" they were just to small for me, thats why I went with the 4" nerf type ball. Now I have found some 4" pyro balls that will allow me to put balancing weight inside them and be able to remove them for transport. Believe me a 4" ball "glued" on to the end makes a nightmare for transport.
At this point I am not interested in making them for sale just trying to make something that allows me to shoot better. Better being a relative word there.

Here it is in a light left-right quartering tailwind. The flag is still a work in progress. Due to the lightweight hollow styrofoam, it responds fast, almost as fast as Ezell's flags. But it still fishtails too much to my liking. The vane on top reduced this problem considerably. The pivot includes viscous damping (the big delrin cylinder holds a few cc's of fluid that the smaller delrin rod turns in). If I use corn syrup, the response is just about right. But corn syrup makes a big mess.:D With water for damping, there is still a little too much fishtailing. I have some new ideas to try when I get time.

I am happy with the indicator. The red cups make about as lightweight an indicator as is economically available and they are easily visible to 200 yds. With the cups hung below the pivot, the inertia of the assembly is small enough that no damping is needed. It does not go whacky in the rain. The edge of the green corresponds to edge-of-ten-ring horizontal deflection at 100 yds and nine-ring deflection at 200 yds. Orange is "don't shoot" territory.:D
