Bad shooter

Was at my club this morning to do some load development on the 100 yd range and I happened to pick a bench away from the one I normally use. As I was walking to the target area I happened to see the following on the fourth steel baffle the club had installed.

I can't even get into the mind of a person who would do this. I don't know if he is ignorant, stupid or evil. He certainly shouldn't be allowed to shoot at our club or have a gun even. Shortly after the club had installed the four banks of baffles I saw a five shot group on one of the baffles and thought that the person might be new to the game and didn't understand that if you don't see your first hit, you don't continue shooting until you find out what's going on. However, the person who did this can't be just ignorant, stupid or dumb, he's just malicious.

I hope you find out who the individual is and ban them from your range for life. If legal action can be taken by the club, it should be. Absolutely NO excuse for that.

Our club has a limited membership with the goal to keep people like that from ever becoming members. Prospective new members - when we have an opening - are required to have two active members in good standing sponsor them. Even so, we occasionally have a minor problem. Nothing that blatant though.

Unfortunately, I've seen worse.

Shooting holes in the benches we worked hard to build, shooting through the supports for our roof, shooting back at the clubhouse, shooting dozens of holes in the lights on an indoor range, shooting into the ground so that the bullets are probably coming down in a populous area - it goes on. I am exceptionally leery of most clubs. I only shoot at ones with restricted membership and gates any more, but still the jerks creep in.

You've heard of six degrees of separation, well unfortunately, it takes only three or less to start down the slippery slope. Bud is a paragon of virtue and a pillar of the club. He vouches for his brother-in-law spud, who gets in. Spud behaves himself, but he wants his friend Dub to get in, and it gets OK'd out of respect for Bud. Dub gets a key and one day he and some friends have a few beers and trash the place.

It takes constant vigilance. My favorite club has an older guy that is retired and comes around at all hours to keep an eye on the place. Every club needs one.
