Are we missing out on something?

After competing in a few Rimfire Benchrest Matches I am wondering if Centerfire Benchrest may be missing out on something that seems to make more sense. That is having folks shoot their 25 record shots all in one setting.

In the matches I have been competing in, the format is 6-25 record shot targets each day, 30 and 20 minutes to shoot 25 shots. That's one heck of a lot of competition and matches in one outing. Just think of the savings in travel expensed if we shot six events each time we gathered and, in one day!

Just something to mull over.

Peter, what is the average distance traveled by the competitors? and YOU do not count!

According to their web site, Chippewa County in Michigan's UP was doing that in centerfire. "25 shot score match at 100 yards on the USBR target".
That's Joe Haller country. When I first saw that I thought it was VERY interesting also. Unfortunately, they haven't been having the participation in centerfire as they do with rimfire. Only one match scheduled in centerfire this year.

Maybe Joe could let us know how the format itself did?

22 RF barrels do not get near as hot as centerfire barrels per shot. On a hot summer day I am not putting 25-35 rounds through my barrel without letting it cool down.

And waht were ALL the conditions that the lot you bought worked in? Bet you a steak dinnner they do NOT win you a Nationals. Or better yet, steak against Maine Lobster, 2 for 1. You game?

Actually, it's not that difficult to find quality ammo. A friend gave me a tip that made it pretty easy to do.

The RF isn't the point of my post here, their methods are however. I am suggesting that the way they do things may merit some looking into and pondering.

David, the secret to conditions is do your shooting in cool weather. Compete in places where it is comfortable but not hot. :)
