Anyone use a standard throating reamer?

DSM

Chuck
I had placed an order for a 6mm UNI throater and what I got instead was just a standard throating reamer. How does this type of reamer get used? There is no stop or collar to support the back end? Is this thing supposed to be chucked in the tailstock solid and then run in?

Its definitely not what I ordered and most likely will need to be exchanged. The bushing size I specified wasn't right either.

I wanted the uni throater with the stop and collar system so it stays the same and so I can use it by hand.

If your intent is to chamber multiple barrels of the same cartridge and throat them the same, then I would return it for the unithroater. You can take measurements where the lock rings are as well. A regular throater used on a variety of cartridges is not repeatable, and you have to be very careful advancing them in.
