I would like to hear your input on it. Also looking for case forming and reloading dies at a good used price. Thansk. J.Michael

17 Ackley Bee

I have one... Nice rifle.
Mine is a 22" barrel on a TC frame.
I load it with H4198.
I usually shoot 25 grain Kindler bullets.
Rem 7 1/2 primers.
I form 218 Win brass, plan on destroying some cases while forming them with the die (but it's worth it).
Berry's Mfg, in Utah, make ammo boxes to fit it.

Here is a photo showing the dies, and part number, as well as a new 218 Bee case and a well used 17 Ackley Bee case.

Here is a picture of my son and the 17AB. It's his favorite for P-dogs.

It is a super 17

I have a Rem 660 conversion (Masker 218 Bee) that I put a H&S 10 twist on. Using 20 g. v-max and Vit. 130 for 3800 FPS. It will go to 4000 with faster powders but pressures spike fast. Cases are WW and I use a .200 dia die for neck reduction before using the full length die for final fireform case. I use the same for the 17 hornet forming and it saves a few cases in the forming process. The gun will also shoot heavier bullets (30 g. Berger 3470 fps) and the reamer is a close neck to loaded cartridge neck dimension, like .001" over. The tolerance in the neck area is really critical for accurate .17 cal cartridges but there is no reason to turn necks on varmint guns. I will try to post a picture of the gun

The easiest way ...

Michael,
The easiest & cheapest way to get a 17 ackey bee is to re-chamber a TC contender barrel in 17 rimfire. That's what I did to get make my 17 ackley hornet & it works very well. The bores & twists are the same for 17 rimfires & centerfire.

I'm shooting 20 gr bullets with Lil' gun powder in the hornet. You'll need an easy flowing powder to get into the 17's narrow neck, and an adapter for the drop tube on powder measure to get the powder into the cases. I also picked up a Wilson seater and sizer dies to make the cases last longer.

I find it's best if I anneal the brass before reforming and after necking down (in two steps) to 17. I hope some of this helps.
Regards, Ron

Not a bee...

...but I sold a Coooper in a 17 squirrel & still need to send his loading data & a fired case to the guy who bought it.

I think this one comes from the hornet and then shortened??

I was a cool looking little rig.
