Hello. I´m new here and I like to try the 30BR and need all help and advice about this cal. Shooting 100-300 mtr.
I have new Krieger barrel HV 1:18 twist, stiller predator action.
Bullet ? Do I need a custom bullet ? and if, what is the best bullet for this twist rate. ( J4 .925, 1.00 jackets ? 110-120g bullet ?)
Powder, I have VV powder, Loads,

Thanks

Hi, I can tell you the lady that just won the VFS Nationals in Las Vegas uses an 18tw HV Krieger, shoots 118gr Ronnie Cheek bullets uses 61.8 clicks of 4198 from a Harrells powder measure. She holds onto the gun firmly. Don

She doesn't have a name?:D

Don't want to make her any harder to live with by making her more of a hero. Her name is Sandra Simon and she didn't think winning was such a big deal. I was impressed much more than she was. You should be vey quiet, Keith, she beat you with the bullets you sold her. Makes me wonder about your judgement. We will give you a chance to get even soon. Don

Helping other shooters and growing the sport is more important than me winning. Well maybe. You and Sandra are welcome back anytime for a rematch.

As was previously mentioned, everything you'll want to know about the 30BR, and then some, is cover by it's founding fathers in www.accurateshooter.com, including the use of Custom Made Bullets if you intend to compete and have any expectation of winning. A variety of bullet options is offered depending on throat angle and the amount of freebore your reamer has provided you with.

Read the article over and over many times. You'll retain more info each time you do. H-4198 is "the" powder of choice for the 30BR. The science has already been worked out. All you need to do is adopt it. If you do, shooting the 30BR is a piece of cake if you practice regularly over a set of windflags.

There is much to be said for VV N-130 in the 30 BR. Too bad it's so bloody dear! If more of us used it, mebby they would pack it in 8lb jugs again and reduce the price some. I deem it superior to H-4198 in the 30 BR and the minimum capacity HBR cases.

The price difference is about $30.00 per 8 lb. You call that bloody dear? Some feel it is superior to 4198.

I campaigned a 30 BR last year, my first "real" year of bench rest. I don't have a lot of time for load development as I work full time and also shoot a bunch of other disciplines. I have a Lilja 1/17 twist and a Shilen DGA action in a McMillan stock, which I bought used with 300 rounds on the barrel. I bought some 116 grain bullets off Allie Euber and am using 36 grains of benchmark in Lapua cases with Federal 205M primers. This load is slightly compressed in my cases. It does fine at 100 but 200 is a problem for me, most likely due to my lack of understanding of mirage. I feel a better shooter than I could win with this load, but I am going to experiment with H4198 and perhaps H322 in an attempt to improve my 200 yard performance. I am going to stick with the Euber bullets and the other components, however. I have a Robinett chamber and am running .009 neck thickness. Good luck to you.
