Air rifle loading, other ???

I shot 10M air rifle in the early 1980s, and gave it up for a return to smallbore 3-P a few years ago.

I'm in the market for an air rifle for benchrest, 10M and field target.

I've looked at the Anschutz 2002, the FWB P700 and the FWB P70FT. (Seen pictures, read reviews, etc. but not held or operated them.)

I see how the 2002 and P700 loads and cocks, but I can't tell how the P70 opens and cocks. There isn't an appearant lever on it. (I've only seen pictures.)

From smallbore shooting, I found the less disturbance from opening, cocking and loading, the easier it is to stay in position.

Anyone have a few photos of the process, or maybe a scan from the owners manual of a P70??

Thanks in advance for any info. I'm going to buy something this week.

The P 70 has a thumb catch in front of the loading port that you push (short through) that releases the loading gate. It flips up/open by itself. After placeing a pellet in the barrel, you push the loading gate back closed which cocks the hammer. Very easy and you do not come out of possition. There was a picture in a previous thread showing the gun but apparently we are a one page forum and that thread is gone.

Is this the latch for the port on the P70?
(This is a photo from a fellow that has this rifle for sale.)

Also, the P70 FT rifle I saw for sale has in the description: "rear breech release for scope use". Not sure what that is either.

It looks like the Anschutz 2002 and P700 might be easier to operate.

Thanks Don for your replys. I get down to Arkansas now and then. Maybe I can attend one of your matches.

That's it....the easy close for scope use is a rod that runs along the dovetail and ends just behind the action that you push forward with your thumb on the hand on the wrist of stock. This partially closes the loading gate and you snap it closed with the other hand. It really is easy. Don't choose the others because you think they would be easier.

UPDATE:

Interesting how I went from owning 3 benchrest rimfire rifles a month ago to 1 benchrest rimfire and 2 high end airguns. I've shot those airguns 10 times more than I shoot the rimfires.

I did buy the FWB P70FT AND an Anschutz 2002CA with a neat benchrest stock.

I like the operation and 10M accuracy of the Anschutz but I like the power and accuracy at 25 yards of the P70FT (rated at 850 fps). But the Anschutz works better with my home range situation (The P70 is kind of loud for an airgun, and with my hours, I do my practice after hours under the lights.)

I'm selling the P70 ... so if any of the new or aspiring airgun benchresters is interested, drop me a PM or e-mail. It's like "Near-New" with a small scratch on the barrel where the muzzle brake set screw dug in a bit. I can't see any handling marks on the red/blond laminate cheekpiece, grip or forend. It's the aluminum stocked w/laminated furniture model.

(I've checked the airgun classifieds on this site and have never seen an airgun in that section, that's why I'm not posting it there.) If I sell it off this post, I'll send Wilbur a donation.

$2K (New ones are $2700) All offers considered.

Interested parties can pm an e-mail address and I'll send some picts.

I've watched the air gun section myself

There have been a few air rifles on there over the last several months but must guys looking to list an air rifle do so on some of the other air rifle forums.

Also, If you want to see more than 1 page of post go down to the bottom of this page and select options and select a different range instead of the last 30
