advice on rests for USBR ARA shooting Sporter class

I'm just getting into the Rimfire Benchrest sport and was wondering what is most commonly used rests both front & rear.

Now I looking at getting one for myself as well as my son and don't want to get junk but then again I don't want to spend a fist full of dollars.
So a good mid range front rest that I don't need to upgrade until I decide to compete in open or unlimited class. budget under $300 per front rest.

now I do have a Medium Bench Bag from www.dog-gone-good.com can I use this for USBR & ARA Sporter class or will this break the rules? or should I use something else & why?
 
Cowan Rest

I doubt you could find a rest at twice the price of a Cowan that matches its Quality!

Joe sent me an email saying he will be shipping a batch in about 2 weeks & still has a few available!

I guess part of my question is, Can I use my Dog Gone Good sand bag for USBR or ARA shooting? or do I need to buy a different / better rest?
 
Short Answer is Yes
As long as you do not want to be competitive!

Long Answer - you would be a lot better off going to Home Depot & buying two 10lb bags of sand!
