A modest proposal for a match format

I had a thought the other day -- about an interesting format for club-level matches. The only additional requirement would be for an evil-minded rangemaster.

It will work for group or score. The only difference over a regular match is you have to fire when the rangemaster tells you to -- he/she picks the time everybody has to shoot. You get seven seconds after the "fire" command to get your shot off, or you're disqualified. you can only shoot once with each "fire" command.

The more evil-minded the rangemaster, the more conditions you'll have to shoot in. My guess is the best shooters will still win, but at first, the margin of their wins will be much higher. But I'd guess that after a while, the rest of us will be shooting a lot better.

Charles, I can't amagine the nightmare of "DQ's with a multitude of shooters letting theirshot go at the very last microsecond, and the Range Officer trying to ascertain just who fired late, and who did not.

I see where you are going, though. Having to figure the exact hold in a 15 mile an hour reversal when the Range Officer decides to say "fire" would be daunting indeed...........jackie

Sounds impossible to control but a lot of fun. I remember praticing with some friends one time and we were all shooting small groups and that got boring so to start a group, each person would shoot a shot onto anothers target anywhere in the rings and they had to finish the group...smallest group won like a dollar (.25 from each), it was the most fun I every had for a quarter and really teaches you how to chase errant first shot. That's been a long time ago, need to do that again.

Put the official target on the moving backer board, have the range officer start the moving backer after the alotted 7 second time limit...............dont disqualify shooters for shooting after the 7 second time limit just have them face the handicap of shooting at a moving target for an additional time period................Don

Sounds like a great suggestion for the next "Ocock" Cactus classic money warm up match..............Don
