A few things about Denton..

I wanted to take a few moments and go over some things I’ve had had on my mind.
As everyone that shoots with us knows, last year I tried something new and had sub sandwiches brought in for lunch, this was to help raise money for the 4-H club and to make things a little easier on the shooters(not having to drive down the road to Subway). We also tried Bar B-Q on two different occasions with two different cooks. As of now the Bar B-Q is out so that would leave us with the sandwiches from the local sub shop.
So far this year we’ve not had a lunch and I’ve received no complaints. No complaints are far less than I received last year about having subs each month. To my knowledge the Denton matches have never had a regular lunch setup. That leaves me with my question, subs delivered or Subway down the street?

Next on my list is the format we have always run for our club matches(VFS in the morning fallowed by Group after lunch).
It makes it much easier to hit the X in the morning before the wind starts blowing but our aggs suffer in the afternoon. We have always shot score in our club matches but I don’t think anyone could argue Denton is more of a group shooting club. Last year we reversed the order a couple times without much trouble. I was thinking we could do a coin toss at the time of the bench drawings to see what we would shoot first. This would still give everyone a full hour to make caliber adjustments. Thoughts?

Last but not least I wanted to remind everyone about the Shooter Of The Year prize.
Jerry Stiller of Stiller Precision Firearms will be supplying all the components and donating the work to build a full blown competition rifle. As we’re doing our best to promote sanctioned VFS matches in our region this rifle will be a 13 ½ pound 30 cal. Please see the end of this post for rules and requirements.

And as always, if anyone has any questions about Denton’s matches you can reach me on this forum or by phone at 682/465/3383. Thanks.. Jon Conley

I used to shoot Denton until 4 or 5 years ago.
Stiller was running things then and asking for help.
They used to offer a lunch from somewhere, not sure where. Usually hamburgers and things, maybe it was a Sonic.
It was offered before the shoot and people made their selection and paid their money and when the break came the food would arrive.

As to the VFS and group
they rotated it around back then
VFS first one time and Group first the next and then change up.

For what its worth.

Jon,
For what it's worth. Why not just let everyone furnish their own food. No food is offered at Luther. You bring what you want in a cooler. When I come to Denton I stop at the Love's store and get a Subwich. It stays just fine in my small cooler. I have seen guys just open a can of vienna sausages with some crackers and a can of soda or maybe a candy bar. No big problem. The problem comes in trying to get 25-30 guys to agree on anything much less what to eat.

As to rotating the targets, makes me no difference there either. Flip a coin or flip Ralphie, whatever.:D

And as to the shooter of the year. Well I sure don't have to worry about that one. Hah.

Heck I just like to come to a range where I don't need a flashing red light on the top of my flag stands and guy wires. Plus there is just a bunch of fun guys at Denton. Just remember the KISS rule.

Donald

Jon,
Lunch from Subway is OK have a menu at the signup get on order together have a scorer call it in, some one goes to pick it up.Remember KISS. By the way its a looong block to Subway.
Flip coin or I like flip Ralph way better, or keep it the way it is. The group seems to go long with the flow.

My 2 cents worth

Question? How many people only shoot group and not score? Score and not group? I would think most all (there might be a few) thay only shoot 1 and not the other. Just flip flop them every other time.

As far as lunch goes, Just leave it to the individual.

Thank you Jerry for donation to this great club. I'm not in the running, but will be very happy for everyone that is in it.

Last, Why are ya'll picking on my boy Ralph? Every one knows weebles wobble but they don't fall down. :D

4 gun June 5th & 6th

Hey John
Changing gears on you for the 4 gun match.....

Is the question still the same for lunch at this match as well... Subway, Sandwiches or bring your own.....

Also what time will someone be at range on Friday the 4th so we can make a day of practice...

Doug,
Lunch is still up in the air, as far as I can tell no one really cares much about the lunches. Once I talk to a few more people I make the decision. As far as the 4 Gun and practice, I’ll make sure I’m there by 9:00AM. Hope to see you there.. Jon

Jon, as far as lunch, Misty and I enjoyed all that was provided but we would be happy to bring one also.

Nobody wants to hear Ralph complain about being flipped so I vote go with the coin:D

We'll see ya Sunday, Steve
