Hi,
I own a Tikka M595, which was recently rechambered in 6BR. It shoots fine (I have to get rid of the flyers though :D), but I'd like to get a BR stock for it. The problem is - I have found only one stock maker who makes stocks for this action - Richards Microfit, but he has rather poor feedback.
Are there any other possibilities?
The problem is - I live in Poland, and cannot send my Tikka for inletting...
Thanks,
lu

Contact McMillian, purchase a stock that is not pre-inletted for an action.

That is how we had to do it in the early days.

I did one not long ago that was inletted for a large diameter Hall action and changed it to a Time Precission.

It is easier to do than you think.

Thanks Randy! How do you do the inletting? I had only wooden stock till now - they acton were always cut in, and then bedded. How about the synthetic stock? Aren't they molded in?

Lu,

I just use a Dremel Tool and start cutting.

The beauty of working with a glass stock, if you make a goof, oh well, fill it bedding material, sand it, paint it and you are done......

Just take your time, use the factory stock as a guidline for how the inletting should look. Cut some, test fit, cut some more.

The only part that is a little tricky is making sure the action and barrel is straight in the stock. But it is not hard, just have to pay attention.

Once you have it inletted and bedded, if it is not right, do it again. Can't do that with wood, either right the first time or it is junk.

What do you thing of using a pre-owned, used stock and reinletting it? Maybe it would be better to practice it before buying a new mcmillan?

Lu,

Absolutely!

I have done that serveral times.

In the early days, that is the only way you could get the stocks, no inletting.

I have one rig now that the stock has had three different actions in it over the years, none of them were similiar.

Go for it,

Randy

Great!
Sounds like fun. I am about to start the quest :)
Thanks again, Randy!

another option

I know you are consider making a stock from a current BR based on the thread. Consider a Sinclair forearm BR adapter. Basically it puts a 3" wide flat plate on the front of your stock. Rides the bag great. Just like a 3" wide flat bottom BR stock. Switch is between guns or take it off to hunt. Just an option. I am using them on my Savages as intro to BR.

Luck in your choice, tiny

Tiny, can you post a photo? How does it look like on the rifle?

Well, Tiny, that could be an option... I guess it would be just more fun to use a dedicated BR stock. The oryginal stock in my Tikka (continental) has a flat forend (2"), but it is more a prone stock than BR - I'd like to use it still for hunting and jagd-match shooting.
Thanks a lot anyway,
lu.

It works fine. It lets me do all type of shooting with my Savages. I can shot FClass with my 308 and a bipod. Then switch barrels to my 30BR and add the forearm adapter and play with BR without the expenses of a dedicated stock. It is better than a true BR, absolutely not. But it is $33.50 and can switch between several guns.

Luck in your decision, tiny

McMillan inlets for the Tikka M595 action. Although I am not sure if they will inlet a benchrest stock for it. They will inlet the Sako Varminter stock for it. It has a slightly wider foreend for bench type shooting.
