Looking for some suggestions in starting loads for the 80gr Berger VLD in my 22-250AI 26" BBL 8" twist ?????

load info

Don't have my notes with me, but I had great success with my 28" 22-250AI and the 80 SMK and 80 VLD using RE-22, IMR4831, and IMR4007SSC. I haven't had that barrel installed in almost a year. IMR4007SSC was the real winner in terms of velocity.

Luck, tiny

Sierra lists the following for STARTING loads with their 80 HPBT Match in the
22-250 Ackley:

H4350 EXT 31.7 grs

RE-19 33.6 grs

IMR 4831 36.4 grs

H4831SC 34.2 grs

RE-22 37.5 grs

The test primer was a Remingtom 9 1/2
The test brass was Federal
All velocities were 2900fps out of a 26" barrel w/8 twist Except RE-22 which was 3100fps.

Thanks that was helpfull

I'm going to try 4 different powders. IMR4007 H4350 H4831SC and Re#22. Reports to follow.

With out too much detail

1gr over Sierra listed max with H4831SC produced lowest SD highest MV (3280) best group. H4350 and Re#22 produced highest SD both powders sucked. IMR 4007 36.5grs produced 3200 with low SD 2nd best group. So far H4831 SC ROCKS !

Well its me again

Ok Sundays trip to the range with 80gr Bergers. Loaded 43.0 grs of H4831SC and produced 3,350 Average MV .That's 2 1/2 grs overlisted max in Sierra's manual. Also producing less then 1/2MOA out of a sporter weight BBL off sand bags.
