6mm br

given the lapua make of the 6mm br case what are tyhe reasons that it is not seen in 100 and 200 benchrest matches.the quality seams to be the same in how they are made as compareded to the 220 cases that are made into the 6mm ppc.T J Jackson the noted gunsmith in his article says it will shoot right along side it as far as accuracy goes but give more speed to get to target faster to buck the wind.he proved it in groups he shot with it and they were in the zeros .granted at that time he used the remington cases but we now have the lapua cases.

The extra case capacity of the BR isn't needed. We can already drive 68gr bullets faster than they need to go to get the best accuracy from them.

The info referenced is well over a quarter of a century in the rear view mirror.

There's no doubt a good 6BR will shoot as small as a good 6PPC for single groups. What's important to remember is that SR group Benchrest is that Aggregate group sizes is what wins tournaments. The PPC is just a very tuneable case size for the 6mm bullets used in SR BR.

I've had some really good 6PPC's and honestly, I never could get a handle on the 'intuitive tuning' that really good tuners use...changing the tune based on what they knew what was going to happen the next time they went to the line. Even with good weather documentation and monitoring, I could get lost pretty quickly. I could always find my way back but if that happens in a tournament.....you're toast and the savvy tuners are going to butter your bread. Hard.

In that respect, there might be something to an average guy like me using a 6BR with a middle of the road tune up and just hanging on to it for the duration of the yardage.

So I guess the answer depends on what you really want to do. For a supremely accurate cartridge, I can't think of anything better than a Lapua 6BR in an appropriate chamber. :)

Just my 2 cents worth....-Al
