6br loads for 105VLDs?

I am loading up some 105 VLDs using RE15 and 450CCI primers. Quickload tells me 30.3 grains is max. Does that sound right? Just want to double check.

Anybody care to share their RE15 and 105VLD loads?

Thanks,

6BR Loads

Ditto for me too.
I just had a rifle chambered up in 6BR and will probably be using 105 VLD's and RL15. A little guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

6mmbr

My old long range load was 30gr Varget ,Lap brass, 450 primer and Berger 105. I switched to Rem 71/2 primers ( more better !!!).
Berger has had to change its 105 I am told and it does not seem well recieved. I am told that Swampworks (the old JLK) are still good.
I am told Re 15 is similar to Varget but have never used it.

Yeah I have heard good things on the Varget. I just have a jug of RE15 at the house already. I read that the RE15 can get more velocity than the Varget but that Varget was the proven winner.

I am shooting the hunting VLDs right now since the target ones just came out and were not available when I first ordered bullets. Hopefully they will do okay. I do like the swampworks bullets.. I shoot them in my 6.5x47. I might give them a try or the Sierra 107 (I think???) a try.

Any help is appreciated.. Thanks!

seirra 107s

I shot the 107s at short range. They need to be jumped and all I had were inconsistant on ogive distance. Perhaps with sorting and repointing and metaplat trimming.

The barrel is a 30 inch, 8 twist kreiger with a 1.25 straight taper.

You can start with that load, and depending on your equipment, you can go up from there carefully.

Rel-15 is a GREAT 6BRX powder.

Thanks... I got loads ranging from 29.5 to 30.5 so I should be good. I will try them working up and see how it does.

When working up a load... Do yal clean the barrel between loads? Just curious.. Seems like the barrel will shoot different when dirty. I guess since I plan to shoot f-class the barrel will mainly be dirty.

while working up a load, if you can not shoot three in a hole, you can not shoot four in a hole.

You do not need to clean after every three shots.

Well I got to do some shooting this weekend. I just shot out to 100 yards. I had loads from 29.5 to 30.5 in increments of 0.1. I shot 5 shots with each load. Below are the results. You can see the powder charge written on the target. Looks like 29.7, 29.8, and 29.9 worked the best. I did not see ANY pressure signs. There was no sticky bolt, no cratering, or anything. Looks like the groups were getting tighter toward the end. I could probably reach the next node around 31 grains but that might be too hot. I am going to stick with 29.8 or so for now. I will shoot through a chronograph to check my velocity. If the velocity is go I will stay there.. If not I might try to reach the next node.

I loaded 29.7, 29.8, and 29.9 grains of RE15 this weekend to see which was the best. I also loaded 30.6 grains to test for group and velocity.

I shot the .268 neck, 105 VLD, 450 CCI, and 29.8 grain load of RE15 through a chronograph and it was running right at 2800 fps. That was a little slower than what I wanted. I want to get around 2900 or a little more.

I then shot the .268 neck, 105 VLD, 450CCI, and 30.6 load of RE15 through a chrongraph and it was running about 2900 fps. I saw no pressure signs. Bolt lift was normal. The accuracy of this load was really good also. See the picture below. I shot at the "4U" on the target and hit right above it. Then took aim at the bullet hole and place 3 in the hole to the top right and one cut the original hole. I will have to shoot it some more but it is looking pretty good.

In order to shoot through more rounds I have loaded. I shot them at 500 yards. The results of the 29.9 group are shown below. The group was pretty bad in my opinion. I was aiming at the F on the target.

I shot the reminder of the 29.8 load and it did pretty good. I think I pulled that one low shot. My 4 shots are highlighted in red.

More testing next week. I will try 30.5 to 31 in 0.1 increments and try to shoot them at 100 and 500 yards.

Well we got out this morning in the cold and windy conditions to do some more shooting. Paying no attention to the horizontal, I shot for vertical group at 500 yards. I had a few that had real good potential. The targets are as follows starting with the top left and moving to the right:

29.7 grains
29.8 grains
29.9 grains
30.6 grains
30.7 Had a hard time focusing on target for some reason
30.8 grains
30.9 grains

Last group was one shot each of 31, 31.1, 31.2, and 31.3 grains to try to find my maximum load but there were still absolutely no pressure signs on the brass nor a sticky bolt.

With 30.3 RL15 and Wolf primers, 105 VLD, I am getting flattened primers and some punctures. Had to back off a little, to 30.1. Every gun is different.

RL 15 gave me approximately 60 fps more than Varget, but, when ambient temps rose above 70 degrees, I got heavy bolt lift. When I backed the load down to the lower accuracy node, my velocity was about the same as where I shoot my Varget loads. I am staying with Varget because it is less temp sensitive, and since we shoot from April thru September, temps vary.

Well I brought the 6mmbr out this weekend in the snow. It was cold but still fun to shoot. I shot loads from 30.6 to 31.5 in 0.1 grain increments with 5 shot groups. I wanted to double check my data from last week. I have affirmed that 30.9 grains of RE15 is my load. This group was shot at 600 yards and witnessed by Lomaxmsu... This is the best group I have ever shot. Don Geraci builds an excellent gun! I found my max load around 31.5 grains. The bolt was barely sticky so I stopped.
