My buddy, on the next ridge, has 100 yds just off the landing in front of the garage. Huge berm, no neighbors so we can actually shoot at all hours. It's lighted.
But we're looking for 300, 600 yds, even 1,000 yds. We're on the Oregon Coast, and so basically butt up against the Coast Range. There are 100 yd. stretches of flats, but they all seem to be low-land next to the bays and have pasturage on them. Even 300 yds of flat ground is hard to find. Weyerhauser is not overly enthusiastic about shooting on their land -- They allow it, but there's no motor access.
Inevitably, the trees get in the way.
Since the recent storm (December 7, 2007) there are clear-cuts where the blow-down from the storm has been hauled out. But it's hardly "range" material. More like, "Hey, let's see if'n we can hit that there stump over on the other side of the draw!"
No, they won't let us shoot on the beach.
100 yds is boring . . .
