6.8 Rem SPC & Lead

I am contemplating buying a 6.8 Rem SPC barrel for my Thompson Center Contender and using it to shoot in the Production Lead class matches at my club. I am probably going to order a 279-120-lfn 120gr mould from LBT. Does anyone have experience with this calliber....even if it is not in lead. Also the barrel is a 1 in 10 twist, does anyone with experience in this caliber have any input to share on this bullet weight/twist rate combo. Thanks in advance for any help.

I think the consensus is that the 10 twist is way too fast for the bullet weights and velocity the 6.8 uses. There is also some issues with the spec of the chamber reamer so make sure the bbl is chambered with the latest spec.

I have a 6.8 Pacnor on a Savage and it is very accurate.

What weights have you seen problems with that rate of twist. I know that this is a 270 in bullet dia. but most moulds I feel are to heavy. I was thinking of using a 279-120 type mould, but I can get one as light as 90 gr. I have also read that the T/C barrel is very accurate with jacketed 110 bullets. My thoughts on this are to slow down the load a little bit, and cast with a 5:1 or 4:1 lino alloy. Thanks for the info, and if anyone has ever had this caliber in a T/C barrel let me know your experience.

Have a 26" Encore Rifle Barrel 10 twist 6.8 spc. 115 gr shoot ok
the best jacketed bullets are 90gr Speer TNT's. They group tighter than 115, 110, 100gr. 100grain spire points are good also.
 
A new angle on lead bullets

Have just completed a series of tests using 95% puter and 5% pure lead in my 308. Out of my Lee 120g mould they come out at 80g, 85g with a gascheck. I can drive them at 3,100fps with 50g of W748 with no leading and excellent accuracy. Point of impact at 100yds is the same as my jacketed bullet load. If any more information is required just reply to this thread.:D:D
