I understand that there is someone who has taken a 6.5x55 (Lapua Case), straightenned out the body taper ending in a 30 degree shoulder. I would amagine it would look like a real long 6.5 BR.

This is intriguing. Anybody have any input on this??. ........jackie

A number of people have shot a 6.5x55 Ackley, which would be the same except for the shoulder angle. Steve Shelp, for one, whom you met at Rachel's Glen. He did pretty well with it. As I remember, he tried the Lapua case, the Norma case, and the RWS case. At least one of them had a slightly greater capacity than the 6.5/284, but in any event, you'd be right around that capacity. I'm not sure how much you'd lose by having a 30-degree shoulder, but it wouldn't be all that much. Not sure if that's a plus or minus for your intended purpose.

Other people we know who have used the 6.5x55 Ackley are Dave Tooley and Joel Pendergraft, but I don't think either of them read this forum much anymore. Steve checks in from time to time, I can send him an email if you'd like.

Charles, I have a 6.5x55 Ackley Reamer, I built Ed Bernabeo a long range Live Varmint Rifle on it a few years ago. Big 20 pound barrel Block Rifle. He shoots the 140 grn Bergers right at 3000 fps, accuracy is in the 1/2 inch range.

I am wanting to build a Hot Rod 6.5 for the 721 I built. That was kind ofd my plan all along, get the 30-06 shooting, (darn sure does that), then build a switch barrel on the same Remington Varmint Taper Profile, fluted by Krieger, so the Rifle will look identicle as it does with the '06 barrel.
