40xb ks

Birddog:

In early 2008 I was attempting to build a rifle to shoot in local club factory class to same specifications as a Remington 40XBBR KS and had to find all factory pieces.

Turns out, Bell & Carlson is manufacturer of the stock used on a Remington 40XBBR KS.

Problem is, Bell & Carlson only manufacturers and supplies this stock to Remington. I in turn contacted Remington and stock is only available through Remington custom shop, and to get one you must send your barreled action to them for fitting.

Price for stock and fitting with your barreled action is $700.00 and Remington would not supply me with a turnaround time.

When I was attemting to gather all needed parts in 2008 to build a 40XBBR KS I called McMillan to start.

McMillan informed me that they did NOT make the stock for the 40XBBR KS and recommended I call Bell & Carlson.

Bell & Carlson informed me that they did in fact manufacturer stock but only supplied it to Remington.

I then called Remington custom shop and they informed me that in order to get a stock for a 40XBBR KS it would require I ship my barreled action to them.

Cost of fitting and bedding of customer barreled action was $700, with no guarantee of turnaround time.

The next thing Remington heard was "OR NOT" and the click of a telephone receiver.

When you say 40XBR do you in fact mean 40XBBR KS benchrest model stock with 3" flat foreend - or - Are we possibly talking two different models of a 40X with difference being stock supplied?

I do know from owning one fifteen years ago, McMillan makes the stock for the 40X Rangemaster model that comes with a 27-1/2" long barrel.

Is it possible that now Remington is having McMillan supply them with stocks as contract with Bell & Carlson for same design has lapsed?

GO HUSKERS!

Bob, are you saying that the green stock with the 3" wide, flat bottom forend, on a 40-XBR (with a 24" bbl) is made by Bell & Carlson?

Thanks,
John

From the research and contacting both companies, Yes.

On another rifle I own I do have a marble McMillan stock that looks very similar to the factory 3" wide foreend stock on a 40XBBR KS I bought used in September 2008, after attempting to find all the pieces and parts to build one.

40XBBR KS I bought was manufactured somewhere around 1992 or 93.

The one that I would like to find was on a 40X Swift I bought new and alas sold, but it had a flat forearm on the end about 1 1/2 or 2.0 inches
It looked like a H&S PSC 13 it was not a 3" benchrest stock but it wae flat.

Birddog:

I bought a 40X Rangemaster back in 1993 or 1994 chambered in 6mmBR Remington.

It had 27-1/2" long stainless barrel and stock foreend was about 1-1/2" to 2" wide from just in front of trigger guard all the way to end of foreend. Didn't ride bags real well.

I don't recall who made this stock, but if I recall correctly it did NOT have an aluminum bedding block similar to the HS Precision.

From my description, could this be same stock as your 40X Swift?

I was informed that the 40-XBBR Actions were ALL blued. That is to say, Remington never made a stainless steel action in the 40-XBBR model.

FWIW,

Upon unbolting a 40-XBBR barreled action from the original "green", 3" wide flat bottomed forend stock, we discovered today, that the McMillan name is pressed or molded into the barrel channel. If anyone cares.

40-xb ks

Just to clarify,

Birddog's asking about a 40-XB KS Varmint Special stock, not the BR KS benchrest stock with the 3"forend.

This one......

This post has got me confused. If you are talking about the rifle in the link below, then McMillian was the stock maker. I have a 40 XRBR made in 1999 and the name McMillian is in the barrel channel.

If you need to buy a stock from Remington, here is info on the McMillian stock, trigger guard and action screws.

Ed,

The pricing and part numbers I came up with are:

F 94486 stock $409
F 94489 trigger guard $ 30
F 22037 screw $3
F104127 screw $3
F 104251 screw $3

For a total of $448. If this is something you are interested in you can either call the parts dept @ 800-243-9700 and use prompt #4 for consumer parts and service or let me know and I will have someone contact you, which ever you desire. Respectfully Keith

You don't have to send the barreled action to Remington to get them, as I have one on order now to restock a CMP 40-X.
